    Belkin N150 drops connection

The Belkin N150 at school is being annoying. Drops connection, when I get it back, it usually only works for a few minutes. I am not the only one having problems with this. I use windows 7, but others who use mac osx, and linux or ubuntu have the same issues.

We got this thing back in '09. Has been plugged in even since. Bad capacitors maybe? This issue just started recently (about a month or two ago).

Take note, this is the older N150, NOT the new sleek one.

I know its a cheapo, but it was working fine before...

No ISP changes, not much increase in users (max is about 20 at a time). There are no issues with the ISP either.

Oh, and when this connection 'drop' occurs, we all can still connect to the router, but we can't access the internet.

    Any ideas?

It could be a number of things.

    1) Firmware could be initally buggy, but you never ran into the problem until more users, more wifi interference, etc.

    2) Bad caps in the router or power adapter.

    3) I suggest opening two DOS windows. In one, do a

ping -t 192.168.1.1 (IP address of router).

    In another, do a

    ping -t 8.8.8.8 (Google's name server)

When the connection drops, it will be help determine if your router is the problem or the ISP.

PS. 3 years is 24 x 365 x 3 = 26,280 hours power on time. So it could be bad caps if the router is in a hot environment.

Great, I will try the ping thing during school on monday!

The router always feels only slightly warm on the outside, but it has no vent holes - it might be baking inside. The same thing for the power adapter. I do remember it being a little on the light side, but it is an SMPS, so....

Side note ... my ping to www.google.com at home is around 30ms

Synology MR2200ac mesh router, UART connection - login details?
        by spleenharvester
This particular unit powers up, LEDs behave normally, but broadcasts no SSID, will not mesh with any other routers. Plugging in an ethernet cable from a Windows laptop results in "unidentified network" with an autoconfigured IP address and no response to pinging 192.168.1.1.

I was able to log into serial/UART by connecting the 6-pin header to the GPIO on a Raspberry Pi Zero W (GND to GND, TxD to RxD, RxD to TxD, no connection between +3.3V as it is supplied on both sides) using Minicom, command:

        Code:
sudo minicom --baudrate 115200 --device /dev/ttyS0
        ...

Why does my ISP router hate my "homemade" power supply??
        by double_DD
        Hi all,

It's gonna be a long intro, so please buckle in, as it's a problem that's been bugging me for several days now. Thanks in advance.

So, I have 2 modems/routers, whatever the proper nomenclature is, one from ISP and one mine. I want to power them via USB-C rather then their original mains adapters (for reasons, that are hard to explain to sane people). Both routers come with 12V/3A mains adapters.
For this purpose I acquired USB-C charger with 250W and 5 ports, 2 of which can supply max 20V/3A. Since 12V isn't a standard PD voltage option (and to future proof,...

Lithium 12v tool battery charger... no negative connection?
        by budwich
I have a drill and battery but no charger so I bought a "universal charger" 120ac in ... 12vdc out (not really universal in lithium world). Anyway it has three contacts, positive, negative and "T" (temperature sensor). I connected those contacts to the contacts on the battery. No charging happened and only the status light is on (green solid) which the label indicates "100% charged".... but the battery isn't near that at around 9v and dying. There doesn't appear to be any difference whether the battery is connected or not. I got suspicious and pulled the...
