How to determine ESR from datasheet for SAMXON 68UF/450v

    Hi,

I measured the ESR value for a large 68uF cap....measured ~ 52 using a friends ESR meter which i need to give back.

My friend said this was high but i was wondering what the ESR value should be.

I am enclosing a pic of the cap.

I cant seem to find datasheet or any info on the ESR for this cap. Can someone help?

The ESR for caps like those is usually not specified; they don't endure the high frequency surges the SPMS output caps do. HOWEVER, I believe you can find an approximate value. I just did a search on my favorite vendor and found the ESR speced on three equivalent (68uF, 450V) caps. It ranged from 2 ohms to 5 ohms. Seven other hits from the same search did not have their ESR listed.

IMHO, your friend is correct; that value is very high.

Thanks. Thats exactly what i needed to know.

If you still have the link to that spec i would like to take a look at it.

      Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go to Digikey's site and do a search on 68uF, 450 Volt through-hole caps in stock.

Is these caps on PFC circuit? Then low ESR is necessary.

          Cheers, Wizard

These caps came off a power supply board from an lcd monitor. Does this help?

Power Factor Correction. It's a 'front end' often found on LCD and plasma TVs. I don't think they would be used on a normal (< 24" ) monitor, but why not post pictures of the monitor and we can be sure.

Yes. And to my untutored eye, they just used a pair of caps in parallel to reduce the height of the assembly. No special low ESR caps required. Still, an ESR of 85 is WAY too high.

Then this one does not utilize PFC. Cap away.

                        Hello.
I have 29inch LG CRT TV,And Yesterday,Whenever I connect AC power cord to power outlet without switch on, I heard a sound like white noise, And When I switched on this CRT TV, It sometime displayed correctly But usually It won't last more than 20 minute and The screen begin to dark and It finally did not display at all for hours..
Today,I dismantled its plastic case and discharged the biggest capacitor(400wv 470uf) which still holds 250 voltage, and I finally detached PCB from cathode-ray tube.
I measured ESR value of most of caps in PCB with MESR-100 and I found that KME(25v...

Elite Capacitors? (450v 47uf power board Toshiba Vestel TV)
                        by slybunda
anyone heard of these caps before? at first glance i mistook them to be Elna caps but closer look and it was elite. not sure if they are known failure prone brand.
also they are 47uf and 450v. why are they so large in height? i can get replacement 450v 47uf caps that are a quarter the height. what am i missing here?

if i were to replace them what should i be looking for?

they are on the power board of a toshiba (vestel) tv power board.

8th gen 13" HP Spectre X360 - Is there a MODS like utility to determine which chip is faulty?
                        by AJ847.63e
                        Hi All,

We've got a 8th gen 13" Spectre X360 which seems to have faulty onboard memory. Windows was bluescreening with Memory_management errors. Running HPs built in memory test brings up memory errors, but it does not tell you which chip. Is there a MODS like program so you can determine this? Memory is on board unfortunately and don't really want to go order 8 chips and replace all 8 if I don't have to.

Lastly do you have to use the exact same chips, or can you use chips with the same specs but from other manufactures?

                        Thanks for your assistance....

How to determine smps power rating
                        by harp
So, I have old smps NEC psu, who not work correctly... it has no label table of declaration, and I supose that is from some printer or so.
                        The output is 34v.
                        Switching element is STR16006
                        Mains caps are 2x 470uF/250v
                        Output caps is 10000uF/40v

I dont know a topology, only have interest to know in which way should determine power for what designed for....
