    Generic question re DVI/VGA LCD's

I have a Samsung 172X on the bench with a weirdness that I can't explain (which is in itself no real surprise) but thought the assembled wisdom here may shed some light.

When powered up with either a VGA or no signal, there appears to be a brief flash of a message box with a message about digital and then it blanks. The backlights can be forced on by overriding the BL_ON line but no pic present under these conditions. I don't have a DVI source handy to the bench to test with. It takes too many hands to override and turn on *and* try and watch the screen.

So to the question: do dual input (DVI/VGA) LCD's ever get "stuck" in a state of expecting the DVI input only after previous use in that mode, and in so doing fail to recognise a valid VGA signal when presented?

Re: Generic question re DVI/VGA LCD's

i'd look at any small caps near the vga signal path.
the microcontroller is probably looking for a sync pulse to switch ports.

Doesn't the monitor have a 1 . 2 switch on the front panel to manually switch sources?

I have had monitors that had an option on the OSD to set a default video input on startup. But if a source wasn't found there they would probably still search elsewhere.

A flash of the backlights can be an inverter failure.

When you forced the backlights on do all of them light?
Elements of the past and the future combining to make something not quite as good as either.

No there is no source selector, it is automagic.

Inverter system is fine. When BL_ON is forced the display is even, suggesting both lamps are working, and the controller chip's protection doesn't kick in at all. (The BL_ON forcing doesn't impair the chip's protection mechanisms, and there is no f/b from the inverter/controller board to what I prefer to term the video board.)

Hi, Can we use SMPS Bench Power Supply for Laptop troubleshooting?
          by shamsudeen
Hi all, I just need to know that, can i use SMPS type power supply to test and short circuit detection on a laptop motherboard?
I saw 95% of repair guys are using only Linear bench power supply. linear bench power supply is pricy, thats why i planned to get one SMPS supply.

i know that in linear power supply the noise will be very low comparing to SMPS supply....

14" MacBook LCDs - has Apple re-introduced a new serialisation type?
          by ronaldopdias
          Hi all,

Since about a month or two ago, we've observed a new type of 'serialisation' on the LCDs and we're just curious whether anyone has seen this
          • New LCDs straight from the factory (not programmed)- if the Mac is restarted or switched on from a cold boot, you must close the lid, then open it again (so two cycles of opening and closing the screen) in order to get display.
          • Transplant the IC onto another screen:
            • If the model and revision match exactly then it will perform as normal
            • If the manufacturer matches exactly BUT its a different revision, the colours are mostly in

          Bench test a series X
          by Eniaro
How do you bench test a series X? I was planning to find a defective PSU to use its connector, but before I go about doing this, I was wondering if there's any bench PSU to the series X connector adapter available

Hie I have a Lenovo laptop

it's working only on the bench power supply when I put the battery it doesn't power on. when I also use the original charger it doesn't power. the batter Is fully charged, I used another laptop to charge the battery. but when I use a bench power supply it works perfectly

          below are my readings

OLD Socket 478 custom bracket + NEW generic cooler
          by BleedCap
I already posted this on vogons.
Its a 3d printed custom bracket for socket 478.
I used this AM4 bracket as a base design.
Its to be use with cheap generic clip based cpu cooler.

          Reason for doing this is:
          - Its hard to get/find a good copper base cooler. Even if you find one, the price is ....
          - New generic cooler is cheaper and can use bigger fan (less noise)

I tested the bracket with cheap chinese horizontal cooler + fan taken from CM hyper 212 evo.
The processor that I was using is P4 2.4Ghz prescott....
