cy199 i-inc showing blue and yellow led only when connected

Hi,
I got a cy199 i-inc 19 " screen that when connected shows only blinking blue and yellow led.

The pictures are attached.. I have changed all the capacitors but still no luck..

any idea how to fix this..?

You'll have to be more explicit. Are you saying that when you press the power button the LED goes to blue, then changes to yellow, but the screen stays blank? In that case, I would look for problems in the backlight circuit.

Or are you saying that you have blinking blue and yellow LEDs and a blank screen? In that case, I would suspect a problem with the logic card.

What brand were the original caps. What brand and series did you replace them with?

I googled this and some prople have fixed this issue by reprogramming the eeprom...but i still could not find the eeprom file to flash it..seem to be a software issue..

Sounds like you may be SOL unless you can find the service manual.

Contrary to what one user said on Fixya, the eeprom is not read-only. It stores the brightness and tint settings, as well as a number of other settings. I'm sure the problem is that it has been corrupted, and the manufacturer failed to provide a 'reset to defaults' function in the firmware. There might be a good reason for that.

I do have one suggestion. While reading the service manual for another monitor I noted that if the Auto and Select keys are held down while the power button is pressed the monitor enters factory setup mode.

There is very little that is unique to a particular monitor line. Many brands are distinguished only by the color of the plastic and shape of the base. I'd suggest trying holding down all possible combinations of buttons while turning it on. If the monitor has only 4 buttons plus the power button, there are only six possible combinations of two buttons, four of three buttons, and one of all four.

Make sure you replaced Low ESR caps with Low ESR replacemnts.

Excellent!! It might take some experimentation to find the proper buttons, but that looks like a procedure to reset the EEPROM to default conditions and clear the corruption.

I used another eeprom from one small 7 inch screen and it worked. so i think the eeprom dont have any valid data to start the screen or else it wont work . have checked all menu function and it's working properly. the setting can also be saved.

LCD Monitors.The INC 199 monitor does lose its hex file as time
goes on creating the blue to yellow flashing light.It can be repaired.
It needs the file and a programmer.I can do this if people want.

most gear with an eeprom will set it to default values if it's blank.
so take it out and erase it.

no eraser? by an new blank one - they cost less than a €.

And even that my not be necessary. Google reset monitor and look for instructions for your monitor.

Any more suggestions for reset procedures?

I've played with variations of the planar link, but no luck.

Also did a full re-cap since I could hear whining, it's still doing it and it still doesn't work. Sounds like it's coming from the PSU, frequency of the whine pulses with the power led.

The eeprom is soldered to the board, removal/replacement is not so simple, but I've got nothing to lose. Any suggestions for the type?

We've one more of these at work, I'll see if I can swap it with another repaired 19" for investigation purposes.

I guess it would do absolutely nothing if I took the eeprom chip off...

I had the same problem. No bad caps, blue/yellow flashing power light. Ordered new eprom from digikey ( 40 cents each, it only takes one, I bought 2 to have a spare ) replaced it. Monitor works now. Just be careful this eprom is very small and very difficult to remove without damaging the board, but it can be done. Found leads to be small and difficult to unsolder. I found that taking a very small screwdriver to unsolder and bend 1 lead at a time out of the way til you get at least one side loose then easier to remove the other side. Easiest way to attach new one was to have a little solder onthe tip of the iron and touch it to the new ones to solder them in. Reason I tried this fix, was I never found anything about a file to reprogram the eprom, so I tried a new one. Tghis eprom does not need to preprogrammed beforehand. Also don't waste your time trying some sort of master reset, I found there was none on this monitor.

Thank you guys! I received today a cy199 with blinking blue/yellow and it was indeed a 24c16 problem! On this monitor, somehow, the 24c16 eeprom was fried; I tried to read this eeprom memory in my ponyprog and I wasn't able to; I installed an empty new memory instead and the monitor works! The original eeprom was 24LC16 what means 2,5V-5,5V supply, instead of "plain" 5V in 24C16. I'm not sure if the eeprom was fried because of this... even if datasheet says it works on 5V...
As an advice, try to use a hot air station for desoldering any SMD stuff... a new one starts at 60-70$.

I have sucessfully used Chip Quick to unsolder SMD components. It is a solder with a much lower melt temp and mixes with the solder on the smd. Once it is mixed in it stays molten for a long time and alows the chip to be removed and cleans up easy with paste flux and isopropal alchohal.
