Re: Samsung Syncmaster 225BW
OK did the test. Check out the files attached. Rar files have video files in them. When I first put probe on yellow contacts my readings were 1.7.X.X then started dropping slowly but then stabilized at around 1.3.x.x. The same happened with red contacts but readings started at 1.6.xx then dropped and stabilized around 1.2.8.0. Further readings looked like what you see in the videos (1.3.xx then dropping a little then stabilizing).

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 225BW
These were low ESR caps I think Panasonic. It has been so long ago that I can't remember exactly. I got the list off of this forum based on what others had used who had the same original caps as mine. Monitor worked great for a long time after the caps were replaced. Edit: see attached files for type of caps ordered and date. Inverter fuse checked out OK.

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 225BW
What kind of caps did you use for the replacement, general purpose or low ESR type? Bad cap can look normal but can have high ESR or low capacitance. Did you check the inverter fuse? You can have bad transformers, bad lamps, failed inverter circuits, etc.

If everything else check out OK on the board, then you will need to make a couple test lamps.

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 225BW
Just a quick note. Did not replace small cap 47 50v or large cap but both still show no sign of bulging or leaking.

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 225BW
Hi, I have 225bw with a rev0.1 pcb that I replaced caps a while back. Now when I turn on the monitor I see an image for a sec or two then black. Blue light stays on and with a bright light I can see an image on the screen. I just read this whole thread but need help with identifying components to test as per retiredcaps guide. I have a Sperry DM-5300 Multimeter. I am very inexperienced in trouble shooting electrical issues. Thank you for all your help.Last edited by jlk69; 12-19-2012, 02:03 AM.

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 225BW
Well there is losts of info on here to help you fix it.
You have a few if not lots of bad caps.
please post good clear pictures of the whole chassis, and then pictures of each board, front and back (in the same orientation) and close up of connectors, (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) using the manage attachments button, which is found by clicking "go advanced" under quick reply.
Please do not post inline and offsite as they slow down the loading of pages.

It will be useful if you can say what the supposed fault was and a bit about yourself - skills tools etc.

Looks like mine dying as well, it takes like 10 sec to turn on.
I'm planing to get these:
3x 330 = http://www.digikey.com/product-detai...613747?cur=USD
2x 820 = http://www.digikey.com/product-detai...613752?cur=USD
1x 47 = http://www.digikey.com/product-detai...266330?cur=USD
honestly this is a mess, bw225 has like 2 revision, and everyone is using different Panasonic! caps. Looking through the thread, saw like 4 different 330uf caps. Kinda confusing.Last edited by S0und; 12-11-2012, 01:04 PM.

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 225BW
Is 1.0mm diameter solder too thick for this job?

Thanks, but what we are doing with these button presses? Resetting something?

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 225BW
Somewhere in this topic is the answer I used.
1. Press "down arrow" key.
2. Hold down the "enter" key for 10 seconds.
3. Turn off and back on. The redness disappears.
Hope it helps you too.

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 225BW
I sold one of these monitors and the person called about it, but he said that will try something with it. I just want to know if I need to repair it again, what would take to repair it. Thank you.

Turns out one of the pink wires was coming loose when I put it back together. Seems to be working now. Thanks for all the info, everybody.

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 225BW
Ok there is more than one board used in this monitor - If you post the board part numbers it will help or better still when you have it aprt take and post pictures:

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 225BW
I replaced (3) 330 uF and (2) 880 uF caps. I connected it while it was "taken apart" and it worked.
But when I put it back together, the same problems occurred ("analog" for a second, then black).
I took it apart, checked the connections, plugged it in again (while "apart"), and it worked. Put it back together again... didn't work.
What can I be missing?
Thanks.
Edit: I should note that I did *not* replace the 47 uF capacitor, nor could I even *find* the 680 uF caps?Last edited by Dougmeister; 11-14-2012, 05:54 AM.
