Re: Samsung Syncmaster 225BW
No, test lamps lit for 10 min then shut off on one test only. After that lamps went out on all tests after a few seconds.

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 225BW
That was with both test lamps on one side. Additional test show lamps turning off after a few seconds. According to the guide there are more tests to run but I don't know the location of the components.

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 225BW
Well after several tests I got the lamps to stay on for a while after hooking it up to VGA port by itself. First couple of times lamps only stayed like a few seconds. Both test lamps and display are flickering badly. Several minutes have now passed with lamps still on. I can see dim image on screen. Lamps went out after maybe 10 minutes but can still see image on screen with bright light on.Last edited by jlk69; 12-22-2012, 03:57 AM.

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 225BW
OK, set up 2 small test lamps (the exact same 13 watt bulb). Did tests again. The lights always go out after 10-15 seconds max. Some time they only flicker. What does this mean? Seams to me that the CCFL lamps are good on my monitor. Is this a correct assumption? Please advise what the next test I should perform.

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 225BW
Made a second test lamp. The first few tests the lamps would stay on for a while but would flicker and a buzzing sound was coming from something but I could not figure out exactly which component. After trying several different combinations I only get a short flicker from bulbs when power is applied. Not sure where to go from here. Re: Samsung Syncmaster 225BW
OK, made a test lamp. I tried out on monitor with everything plugged in including the 3 other CCFL's. Lamp lit up for a few seconds then shut off. I tried this test with all 4 of the sockets and got similar results. I started with cn5 socket then did cn6 then cn4 and finally cn3. Each time the lamp stayed lit for a shorter amount of time. Did I do the test correctly? Should I make up another test lamp?...

Re: Inverter tester using old CFL
I was afraid of that. So I might need to make as many as 4 test bulbs? Or I could try hooking 3 up to LCD with 1 test bulb and hope only 1 CCFL is bad in my monitor and keep trying until lamps stay lit....

Re: Inverter tester using old CFL
Wow, thanks for the quick reply. Looks like I will have to sacrifice a new bulb in the name of science. From the pictures I surmise that you don't need hook up to screen to test. Do you have to have a signal coming from the computer? Looks like that was not connected as well. Also, do all of the leads have to be hooked up to bulbs (mine has 4 leads for 4 bulbs?)?...

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 225BW
I only have 1 other LCD monitor but it is the one i am using right now a Viewsonic VA903b. Will try to set up something to test. I looked at where the ends of the ccls but have not disassembled any more. Is it easy to take out the ccls.Last edited by jlk69; 12-19-2012, 04:25 PM.

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 225BW
OK did the test. Check out the files attached. Rar files have video files in them. When I first put probe on yellow contacts my readings were 1.7.X.X then started dropping slowly but then stabilized at around 1.3.x.x. The same happened with red contacts but readings started at 1.6.xx then dropped and stabilized around 1.2.8.0. Further readings looked like what you see in the videos (1.3.xx then dropping a little then stabilizing)....

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 225BW
These were low ESR caps I think Panasonic. It has been so long ago that I can't remember exactly. I got the list off of this forum based on what others had used who had the same original caps as mine. Monitor worked great for a long time after the caps were replaced. Edit: see attached files for type of caps ordered and date. Inverter fuse checked out OK....

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 225BW
Just a quick note. Did not replace small cap 47 50v or large cap but both still show no sign of bulging or leaking.

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 225BW
Hi, I have 225bw with a rev0.1 pcb that I replaced caps a while back. Now when I turn on the monitor I see an image for a sec or two then black. Blue light stays on and with a bright light I can see an image on the screen. I just read this whole thread but need help with identifying components to test as per retiredcaps guide. I have a Sperry DM-5300 Multimeter. I am very inexperienced in trouble shooting electrical issues. Thank you for all your help.Re: Samsung Syncmaster 225BW...Last edited by jlk69; 12-19-2012, 02:03 AM.

Re: Galaxy nvidia 7950 GT AGP
Thank you all for the quick replies. I found Panasonic FM replacements at digi-key except the FZ57 470 16V which was not in stock. I am going to try one of the other brands to replace it. Have you heard of NTE capacitors?...Last edited by jlk69; 12-01-2009, 01:58 AM.

Re: Galaxy nvidia 7950 GT AGP
I read on another forum that it was important to get replacement caps that were the same diameter, height and pitch (distance between pins) as the original caps. Is this true?

Galaxy nvidia 7950 GT AGP
My card blew two capacitors. One had FZ57 470 16V on the top and a distance between the pins of 5mm (10mm cap diameter). The other one had FZ6C 470 16V on the top and a distance between the pins of 4mm (8mm cap diameter). Can you help me find these capacitors?...
