Can a monitor PS be tested stand alone

I'm working on 2 monitor power supplys and am wondering if I can test the +5v & +12v with just the AC power cord pluged in. That is, all other connectors un-pluged (main board, lamps, etc)? I'm a first timer, thus the question.

BTW this is a great forum. i'v learned a lot from the posts i'v read this week.
    Thank you all.

Yes you can, most monitor power supplies are an always on power supplies and they run 24/7 as long as it is plugged into AC outlet.
You will get more help by giving make, model, and good clear pictures.
