Re: Sourcing replacement backlight SMD LEDs or Strips (LG panel)

    Happy new year guys!

I found this thread and thought I would share my experience.
Someone handed me a not-very-old LG TV (42LB5610) with sound and no pic. Sure enough there was a trace image visible using the torch (flashlight) trick. I informed the owner he'd be unlikely to see any change out of €100 to fix it. So he asked if he was due me anything for looking at it and off he went to buy a new one.
Now it's nothing fancy but it would still be nice to get it going again, so I had a proper look and to my surprise I discovered that ALL 32 backlight LED's are short-circuit. What also surprised me was that on the PSU there is a label listing the output voltages; the usual 5 & 12V rails and one at 200V. Now when I was at school, 32 (LED's) X roughly 3V would be 96V or thereabouts. So were these 6V LED's?
Well after a quick search on the eBay page mentioned above (thank you @cmg) it would appear so, there are several 6V LED's listed, one specifically mentioning LG 'Innotek'.
So it looks like this set won't be seeing landfill for a while yet. Replacing 32 LED's and then sticking the plastic lenses back on will be a "when I've nothing better to do" job. I've not done much with SMD's having pretty much given up repairing TV's when CRT's were still popular.

      Hello CMG,

About your test images, I see you have used only two cables on the connector, one for positive and one for negative while the other ones are floating. Can you comment a bit more on the testing procedure that you have used, was it power board pins 6 (VO3) and pin 7 (GND) on the connector the ones you have used?

Thanks a lot for sharing the pics and information, same to everyone else for their input.

Vizio M65Q7-H1 Red Vertical Strips fixed by tape blocking LC1 signal to half of the panel

          Failure Symptom

No picture, just red vertical stripes. Google search shows quite common problem for these recent Vizio M series although red vertical stripe pattern may differ. Some call it "Netflix" boot screen haha.

          Where is the short?

Panel has 4x buffer boards. Quickly found the 1/4 panel buffer board with the problem by selectively disconnecting buffer board flex cables.

Having recently fixed another Vizio with similar symptoms that was a shorted ESD diode array ( link ) Probed the ESD diode array but...

          Visio M70-C3 LED replacement strips
          by mc900fthanna
So... I have the patchy back light issue with my Visio M70, meaning some light up, others do not. I finally got around to testing the LED driver board and found that was not the issue (swapped another one in and the same issue persisted) and I am considering if i dare dive deeper into this TV and go after the LED strips.

Right away i see that they don't seem to stock them anywhere out there (E700DLB0016-002) is a part number that i see a you tube / seller guy list out. He has a nice video of how to get into my exact TV out there: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0AcUPiN83Tg

1/3rd of screen black with occasional vertical lines - repair attempt for learning! - Kogan KALED58RT9220SVA

Thanks for offering your assistance with this. I'm an electronics enthusiast with moderate level of competence (have a decent lab with two power supplies, microscope, DSO, hot air, good iron, can competently work at a component level on SMDs, design and solder own PCBs etc). I really enjoying fixing things and learning new stuff so took up a free 58" LED TV and have been googling and watching Youtube videos to see if I can fix this! I am happy to go down to individual component replacement/strip replacement etc - it's all in the name of learning.

The issues are as follows: the...

75UK6190 blank screen, shorted caps on panel strips
          by mecha1166
I have 2: 75UK6190 units. One has a broken panel - it lights up and shows a bit of graphics. The other LG tv lights up but has no video. Turns on/off ok, and I swapped all the boards to check them all. I exposed the strips on the bottom of both panels. I tested the caps along the LED strips on the bottom of the panel. About 12 smd cap chips on the tv with no video, test shorted. I talked to LG tech support but they do not repair to this level, they just replace the panel. Now, there is a Philips mainboard that a smd capacitor chip shorts and causes a squeal from the power supply, and the fix is...

RCA RLDED 4331B: 43 inch LED TV: Backlight issue
          by lmcancu
Hi I am having an issue with the LED backlight of this TV. I can see the picture with a flash light, so I determined it was a backlight issue.

Initially, after opening it I found 2 shorted and 1 open LED on 2 strips (total of 4). I removed the LEDs and shorted the pads together to verify if the backlight would work.

Testing it, I found the backlight turned on and I measured 54V when TV was in standby (off), and 100v when TV was turned on. The 4 strips each contain 9 LEDs, so 36 in all minus 3.

Instead of putting it back together I decided to replace...
