Apple Cinema Display 23" ... screen issue

    Hello,

At first I thought I only had a visible (defect) pixel row on top of the screen.
It's not quite visible due to the Moiré effect, but I have marked the line. (see 1st picture).
This is already there after a cold power on.

But than after some 5 minutes of powering on, the whole screen goes berserk. (see 2nd picture and the video).
When I look closely, the garbling is beginning at that faulty pixel line.

    Garbled screen

    Is the inverter board dying?
Something is obviously warming up and I think going too hot and breaks down.

I will open the monitor and take some pictures of the boards inside; I'll post the images later.

Backlights are just the light source so you can see the images on the LCD panel, it will not cause distorted, scrambled images.

Sorry, I meant the Tcon board... Inverter board is indeed only for the backlight.

I have opened up the monitor and replaced the powerboard and inverter board for two working ones (just to be sure they are good) and the problem still exist, so I guess the fault is on the Tcon board, and my guess, in the main graphic chip, the LG Philips SIL1263CMHU.

Found the chip on AliExpress for $7, free shipping.

I tried to reflow the chip with my hot air gun but that didn't solve it.

You agree the fault is on the Tcon board and not in the LCD panel itself?
I can't replace the Tcon board because it's stuck to the panel with those tiny flatcables.

What is driving this monitor and how do you know the distortion isn't coming from the source, ie the video card ?

Monitor is driven bij an ATI7950HD videocard which I use for over 2 years now; the card itself is working perfectly with my own (HP W2408h) monitor so that can't be the fault.

I also tried another videocable but the problem stays the same. I have 4 other Apple Cinema Display's lying around and those are working perfectly on the same videocard... so, the problem is 100% the monitor/panel itself.

I already ordered that Philips LG videochip, now the 'fun' to get that chip off the board but I have a friend who got a PCB heater unit.
I also have to take a look at the memory IC's on that board, maybe they are faulty (also).
