    Testing SMPS

I read some where that you can test a SMPS transformer was light bulbs, I repaired all the faulty part in the SMPS but still not working. (I think the transformer is faulty). Can I test the transformer input this way, if I check it with a multi_meter there is about 330v DC there.

    So it does not try.
Measure the control circuit and also the secondary part of the transformer short-circuit diodes.
Bulbs for output transformer by tension.

      Re: Testing SMPS

So you are using the lamp to test the B+ feeding the Power MOSFET DRAIN PIN through the power transformer primary winding in the Primary side of the circuit (one side of the lamp is connected to the primary side circuit GND), be real careful due to the cold resistance of the lamp which is very low so it will draw lots of high inrush current. Do you have 330VDC between the two wires (Black and Red) of the lamps and how many watts are these lamps?
SMPS POWER Transformer very rarely goes out. since you do have B+ (330VDC rectified from the main AC line.
So did you check the VCC pin of the SMPS IC to see what DCV you are egtting and if it is high enough to kick start the IC? How about the startup/running cap connected to the VCC pin of the SMPS IC. You also check other components as well, I.E. DIODES, RESISTORS,ETC.?

Testing LED TV Mainboard without SMPS
        by learnmore
        Hello Community,

I've been looking at the TV160 mainboard tester for LED/LCD screens and wondered if there was a device for providing the required voltage to test a TV mainboard using the TV160 without the SMPS.

Doing so may allow me to work on the main board away for the larger unit with the panel and SMPS

        Thanks,
        LL

Is it possible for transformer substitution?
        by mikey5791
        Hi all,
Got this local made DC power supply (12/14V) given free as the transformer has melted. There is no marking or indication to identify what type or rating of transformer used.
Fyi,. I had a busted autogate mainboard with transformer with marking 13-0-13 . Is this the 13v dc type transformer?
        My questions are
        1. How do i test to see if the transformer is in good working condition?
        2. Can this transformer (marking 13-0-13) be used to replace the melted transformer on the DC power supply?
Hope you guys understand what i was asking. My intention is...

        Velodyne SMPS, power transformer
        by PlayerOne
I need help in finding a schematic or otherwise identifying the electrical characteristics of a transformer in a SMPS having the following marking:

        042-010214-000ZR
        ELY 1317

A photo of the transformer is attached. In particular, this is a PCB mounted transformer and I need the pinout.

I've tried Google searches of various portions of the part number with no luck, however managed to find posts with photos of this transformer having the same markings, except for the numbers following the “ELY” which leads me to believe they must be date code...
