    Backlight Lamps, Parts, Etc.

What's the best place to get backlight lamps? Ebay? Some other site? Clue me in on where the most cost effective and quality cfl's are. Also any ideas on where you guys get parts. ie, caps transformers etc.

I currently get caps from digikey, but have looked at mouser and mcm.

    Thoughts?

ccflwarehouse.com is a good source for lamps. eBay for transformers and obsolete mosfets.

i'm sure someone told me they charge $$$$ for stuff.
        - yep, just looked.
fuck-me that place is expensive! a tv could cost less than a set of tubes!!!

        i shop here:
        http://stores.ebay.com/lcd-led-parts

and where possible, i buy the led conversion kit.

how do you typically retrofit the led conversion kit. where do you connect it to the existing boards?

you take the ally chanels out with the tubes in, remove the tubes and any crap like rubber spacers,
then put the strips in with double-sided tape or heatproof glue.

then if you have a seperate invertor,
you replace it with the new one.
it needs 10-30v, a "turn-on" signal, and an optional "dimming" signal.
all this should be on the original invertor connector.

if it's a combined psu/invertor then you have to isolate the invertor section and tap the signals.
i'v done some LG's like this and it's simple.
first i remove the driver chip so it wont send any fault-codes.
            then i remove the fets,transformers,caps & connectors.
you dont need to do that - but it creates a space just the right size to slap the new invertor on with double-sided foam tape.

unfortunatly, the kits only go upto about 24" i think - i'd have to check.
and they are only for edge-lit.

so if you have a power hungry bastard with an array of tubes behind it, you have to find another solution.
a friend of mine does those using reels of led-strip.

install foto's seem to be here:
