    CTX S176A Clicking Monitor Repair

    Hi all,

Thanks for all the help in the forums from all the contributors. Here's my contribution, hope it helps someone out there.

    Fault

Monitor powers on, image is displayed for a second then monitor clicks and goes blank, come on for a second, clicks and goes blank. This cycle repeats infinitely.

    Details

There is a power board inside the monitor, S9 Series Power Board rev 1.0a, 11S92-008A. S9-P08A10-1103.PCB are all the markings I could find on the board.

    Solution.

Replace the six capacitors on the circuit board nearest the two transistors attached to the heat sinks.

    They are

    C21 - 1000uf 16v (CPC Part Number - CA07465)
    C22 - 1000uf 16v
    C20 - 470uf 16v (CPC Part Number - CA7468)
    C17 - 470uf 16v
    C15 - 1000uf 10v (CPC Part Number - CA7459)
    C16 - 1000uf 10v

Someone posted some information about these capacitors and ripple currents so as the first batch of caps I ordered had far lower ripple currents I didn't try to use them. These are very close in value to the originals.

So far I have repaired two monitors and both are now working perfectly. The outer casing was a little hard to open and does result in some damage, but the monitors are now working.

    quick update.
Tested one with the Panasonic lower ripple capacitors and they also resolved the problem.
    Anyone got any thoughts?

      Another update.
Opened my forth monitor and this one has different caps. It has 4x1000uf 25v Teapo caps and 2x470uf 25v ?????

Any thoughts, all labels are the same on the board. The fault is slightly different in that the monitor only flashes once and the green power light stays on but there is no image.

      Thanks in advance.

Standard fault finding...caps if fau;ty, measure voltages of PSU,resistance of the inverter transformers...ie follow the 2 secs to Black sticky. Also as you have other monitors then it should be easier to solve by comparing voltages, resistances, and even swapping the screens, to check the backlights.
