    Recap or not to recap

    Hello fellow techs
    I just recived three monitors NEC ASLCD92VX-BK 19" monitors are healthy and working fine, caps on power supply are United Chemi-con ky series they all test fine on ESR meter, I don't know how old they are should I recap all monitors I sell monitors and I don't want them coming back for bad caps

      KY series caps are amazing. They will be fine. If CapXon/Lelon, etc. caps can last years in monitors, then those will be good for a very long time. Other components will die long before those caps do

          KY caps are good. No "known" problems.

                  I would leave them alone and see how long they will last, that will be real life test.

                      I know I've been a little scarce lately (like the last 2-3 years), but I'm still here and still doing my thing with fixing PSUs.

                      Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though.                       Heathkit IO-4205 Power Supply Caps

                      Hello,

                      First, I am a complete noob with high voltage stuff. I'm learning, but I need help by someone looking over my shoulder.

                      I recently came into posession of a Heathkit IO-4205 5MHz Dual Trace Oscilloscope. The documentation is copyright 1978. I'm told it works.

                      I opened it up to check the caps before I applied power, and found the following black caps and wanted to know what they were. They are on the power supply board. I was able to read the name and model and came up with, "Nytronics 162J-1, 0.1uF, 20% tolerance, 2000VDC."

                      no-name Radeon 9600 XT recap and cooler

                      I've been seeing a lot of cheap-looking (but not always so cheap) no-name AGP video cards on eBay for a while. They started popping up quite a bit when the market for AGP cards became more alive all of a sudden due to interest in “retro” PCs. One thing that struck me about these cheapo cards is that they almost always seem to come with garbage caps - including the abominable Sacon FZ. That aside, though, I've been wondering about the rest of the quality (or lack of?) on these cards. So I decided to satisfy my curiosity yet again.

                      ASUS P5GC-MX motherboard recap

                      Here’s another motherboard that needed a full recap: an ASUS P5GC-MX.
                      This one was gifted to me some years ago by user Pentium 4, along with a few other goodies. It actually came in working order with no bulging or leaking caps. However, I noted there were United Chemicon KZG caps everywhere on the motherboard. The CPU VRM output (CPU V_core) was the only exception: it had only 2x KZG. The rest was 6x UCC TMV 4V 680 uF caps… which aren’t any good news either.

                      So here is what the motherboard looked like with its original caps:
