I'm totally new to this forum and found it by googling my issue with the Sceptre X20WG that I picked up at Habitat for Humanity. The problem was similar to what the OP here https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=14513 was having. Basically the blue light would come on for a few seconds, then turn off for a little while, then would come back on if I hit the button. This was also accompanied by a very quiet but high pitched whine, and nothing would appear on the screen.
Anyway, I figured it was capacitors, like that guy's issue turned out to be. The first odd thing is that while I was led to believe it should be really easy to get to the board with the capacitors, I had to do some serious damage to get inside. See picture #1. There was absolutely no other way to take it apart. Believe me, I tried. For a while. After taking my monitor apart I stumbled across something, that combined with what I just mentioned, is making me question if I somehow acquired an X20WG that's very uncommon: the capacitors on the board look different from any pictures I have seen and they don't match up with WG20X repair kits from sites like this: http://lcdalternatives.com/Repair-Ki...-P1660440.aspx So on my board, that cap with the blue question mark doesn't appear on any other pictures I've seen. Also, the three near the bottom on my board are two different sizes, but they all appear to be the same capacitors on the standard boards. Otherwise, everything appears to be exactly the same.
Mine's definitely a WG20X, and it's not any other variant. At least it's not labeled like that. So my question is, did I somehow get a rare breed, or did the factory mess up and send this out, did someone screw up the repair, or am I just dumb/I'm missing something and this is common and I just need to replace the caps that are there?
Pic #2 is my board & configuration, pic #3 is from the thread I linked and seems to be the standard WG20X configuration.
Hope I did everything okay & I apologize if not!
