    Re: VP2030b Power Supply Problem

Try heating up that startup cap with hair dryer to see if the power supply will start running again, capacitor ESR goes down when heated. If the MOSEFT shorted out, it can also take out the Gate drive circuit inside the IC plus any diode and resistors connected to the Gate of the MOSFET.

The Fluke 185 is a fine multimeter, but no multimeter can measure ESR. If ESR is high, the circuit won't work.

        Re: VP2030b Power Supply Problem

If it is the IC 1 that is faulty, then don't buy one,I have 5 new ones and can easily put one in an envelope. They are also known as DAP8A as well as NCP1203,and they are supposedly used on Delta DAC boards 19M05,19M010.19M011,19M015,Acer1916Was,Va1912W,and surpising to me Xbox...I have a 19M010,and confirm it is used on that. The DAP08 according to ON semiconductors were made specifically for one Manufacturer and no Datsheet was made available.

          Re: VP2030b Power Supply Problem

OK, I replaced the two capacitors in question with no change. I then removed IC1 and checked the voltage on the relevant pads and this time it was just a few millivolts. And now I think its time to come clean, ....before I found your forum during the initial stages of trying to find the problem I found two damaged diodes one blown apart and the other looked discoloured (I think, - its been a while ago now).

It was a zener diode (ZD4) connected underneath the pcb between the 0v and the negative of the large 150uF capacitor that was blown apart. I thought I identified it as being a 15v zener and so put one of these in its place.

I think I also replaced another zener diode (ZD3) connected on the top of the pcb connected between pin 1 of the 2SK3569 and the 0V again I thought I identified this as 15v.

I have a horrible feeling that you are all making a collective sigh and are about to tell me these are the wrong components.

Anyway, I mention this as I'm tracing the power supply to IC1 and it seems to be heading for these components and the MOSFET.

          I await your advice.

Rtech, thanks for the offer of the DAP08. I may need one and I'm happy to pay for it.

            Correction to my previous information ;

The zener diode (ZD4) is connected underneath the pcb between the 0v and the junction between two resistors R7, R8 and an inductor L1 and not to the -ve of the large 150uF capacitor. Sorry for any confusion.

Samsung BN44-00262A H37F1-9SS power supply help finding blown value components!
              by cheeky2
This Samsung combined power supply and inverter was replaced a while ago from a Samsung 37inch LE37B530P7W TV. However I would like to repair this one.
I have replaced the Mosfets Q1820 and Q1821 ( FDPF7N50U) which were both blown and the fuse FM802S. The schematic for this power supply that is attached doesn't relate to this power supply as the driving transistors and diodes are D1830, D1831, D1832, D1833, Q1811 & Q1810 are nowhere on the schematic!
Does anyone know what the components for D1830, D1831, D1832, D1833, Q1811 & Q1810 should be? I ask as I did change the Mosfets...

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
              by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

LG 47LB5DF blown power supply board
              by cmlewis89
              Hi folks,

I'm new to this forum. So my trusty 17-year-old LG 47" LCD recently died. As I was booting it up, I heard a hum followed by a loud bang, sounds of pieces flying around, and loss of power to the unit. Inspecting the PSU, I saw two obvious problems: a blown thermistor (bang + flung pieces) and a visibly bulging main cap. Inspecting as many components as I could with my Fluke MM, I diagnosed that the following components on the "hot side" of the board were also bad: one of the 2 main MOSFETs, main 8A fuse, small cap (25V 47uF) connected to main caps, and a blown...

Argon SA1 audio amplifier power-supply - fuse blown after fixing the short?
              by Babbar
I found a project in the electronics trash yesterday. A nice Argon SA1 audio amp with some electrical issue. Took it apart and saw that the 4A250V fuse was blown so started lifting components to find the short. Eventually got to two MOSFETs (model FTA14N50C) that are shorted and when i took them out the short was gone.

Now i didn't have any replacements of the same model of course but i found a couple with pretty similar spec i thought (K10A60D & K12A50D) and put them in. Also replaced the blown fuse with a 3.5A250V one. Checked another time for short circuit and plugged it in....

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
              by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

              Assuming...
