    DELIUM Vw19B

    Hi,

I got this 19" screen last week and it has the "2 seconds to black" trouble.

Although the caps seemed visually ok, ordered new ones from radiospares and should receive them next week.

I did a search on badcaps.net & it returned nothing (I guess the main reason is not that this brand works better than the others but is certainly less bought )
Did anybody here came across this brand before ?

Something your not telling us? this power supply has already been worked on the caps have long legs on the back and they have probably shorted out on the frame?
Please supply more info regarding this.
What caps have you ordered they NEED to be low esr for this application.

yes sorry about that, the long legged caps are the ones I had available and are the ones I already changed.

      these are NRSZ series caps.

I have not heard of them but one established member says he has used them and they are ok. You should get them as near the board as you can - first thing I noticed they were stepped up. Perhaps the distance between the legs is less than the originals in which case you have done the best you can. You really need to be careful though with the uncut legs.

It is Philips Board number will be IlPI something?? 68??

I have not read your previous posts but if you have not read it you should read this
by retiredcaps - It has lots of tests you can do without the power on. I would do the test on the Inverter Transformers early on. Start at post 19

          Yes it's written ILPI-068 REV:A

I didn't know it was necessary to get them as close as possible from the pcb, is it to avoid shorts ?

Thanks for the link, I'm going to have a try with the transformers test.

No, it's to minimize the impedance of the capacitors, which is important in switchmode power supplies. When working at high frequencies, you need to think of any length of wire as a coil (inductor). The longer the leads, the more trouble they can make.

I've used NRSZ series caps before. They're a good quality low-esr cap made by a small japanese company called NIC components.

Does the power led stay on even when you the screen goes black? Have tried measuring for voltages at the wiring harness for the power supply?

@jetadm123: When the screen goes black the power led switches off.

I used my fluke to check the two tranformers:

                Code:
                T501:

480 Ohms may be correct for this size transformer.
I think th key word is this statement:"@jetadm123: When the screen goes black the power led switches off"

If the power LED goes off, it could be because the power supply shutdown or there is a problem on the main board. The main board controls the power LED, but main board needs power to work (namely 5V standby).

I used my fluke to check the two tranformers:
One retiredcaps bonus point for a picture of your Fluke 189.

                        I guess T501 is dead ?
The reading suggest T501 is good. The rule of thumb is that both readings show be within 3% of each other.

On your main board, there are two voltage regulators: U101 and U102. After the power LED goes off, measure U101 and U102 and report your findings. See my sig file on how to measure them.

PS. Those are good focused pictures.

He is waiting for caps to be delivered and fitted so I didnt suggest this. I was only asking him to do non-voltage tests

I notice a small orange fuse, probably ok but please check it. should be 1 ohm or less.

ok, I received the caps & changed them.

I still have the 2 seconds to black, but now the led switches to standby and stays orange.

                            Once in standby I measured U101 & U102:
                            Code:
                            U101

                            1 : 0
                            2 : 3,30V
                            3 : 4,98V
                            Code:
                            U102
                            LD1117A - L18AUM
                            1 0
                            2 1,79V
                            3 4,29V
                            And CN801

                            Code:
                            CN801:
                            1 (VCC5V) 5V
                            2 (VCC5V) 5V
                            3 (GND) 0
                            4 (GND) 0
                            5 (ON/OFF) 0,06V
                            6 (BRIGHTNESS) 0
                            7 (VOLUME) 4,64V
                            8 (MUTE) 0,07V
                            the orange fuse reads 0,29Ohms

Okay, that is a step forward.

2 seconds to black can be

                              a) bad caps
                              b) bad ccfls
                              c) bad ccfl wiring (especially the return wiring)
                              d) bad secondary windings on the inverter transformer

Try measuring pin 5 as soon as you apply power. It helps to have the probes in place and then hit a switch on the power bar.

I have an old 15W CFL (50Hz 110mA), should I try ? (despite the fact that the post talks about a 14W CFL)

                                Thanks

i ordered a lot of caps from digikey to repair my xboxs. one thing i ordered was 50NXA10MEFC5X11-ND caps and i think they are not polarized. will this cause any kind of a problem? i really don't want to order new caps just because of this.

                                    Hello,

First, I am a complete noob with high voltage stuff. I'm learning, but I need help by someone looking over my shoulder.

I recently came into posession of a Heathkit IO-4205 5MHz Dual Trace Oscilloscope. The documentation is copyright 1978. I'm told it works.

I opened it up to check the caps before I applied power, and found the following black caps and wanted to know what they were. They are on the power supply board. I was able to read the name and model and came up with, "Nytronics 162J-1, 0.1uF, 20% tolerance, 2000VDC."

                                    Hello!

I have two projects on my work bench. One is a friends dead JBL Xtreme speaker with a blown voltage regulator and corresponding bulged and shorted cap. That cap has clear markings so I know what replacement I need for it.

The other project however is a whole different deal. It's a Zoom 9000 guitar effect from the 90th that has developed a devil hound howl when there is no input from the guitar. I'm guessing caps problem. So, since I don't really use this effect anymore I thought it would be a perfect project to learn on.

I have studied the board and...

I'm trying to repair two old VCRs, they both have bad caps. One has leaky ones, the other would barely run until I subbed in some caps from another power supply I had laying around (though they are the wrong values). This vcr works for an hour or two, but then the power supply starts whining and the picture gets lines in it. I didn't replace all the secondary caps, so another voltage might still be problematic, or the values I used are too far off.
I've been on mouser and digikey but the options are a bit overwhelming. I just need some new ones that will work. They don't need to be top quality,...

                                    Gigabyte GA-6OXT :: caps question
                                    by Foetuss
                                    Good evening

I recently aquired a rev 1.1 Gigabyte 60XT, and was suprised of the amount of leaking caps for a motherboard of the P3 era. Especially the way the 330µf caps seems like the housing discolored even.
Now, there are some 3300µF 6.3V KZG series around the CPU. Would it be OK to replace them with something like EEUFR1A332 ? (Panasonic FR 3300µF 10V). Or was this board designed around very low ESR caps?

But I was also suprised about the bigger boys, which are 330µF 25V.
Could it be they used 25V caps because they were cheaper / available at that time?...
