Samsung SyncMaster 225bw - Can I replace my 'REV0.1 Power Board' with a 'REV0.2' one?

    Hi there,

I've stripped my Samsung SyncMaster 225bw and found a variety of faulty capacitors. My monitor uses the power board IP-45130A (REV0.1). I was just wondering whether I can replace it with IP-45130A (REV0.2) power boards which are available on ebay?

I've looked at all of the electrical INPUT and OUTPUT details for both boards and they are the same. The other alternative is to buy a REV0.1 Capacitor Repair Kit.

Any help would be really appreciated :-)

    Many thanks!

Hi - You will need to be careful if buying caps on ebay as many are fakes. For the power supply board you need low esr caps - good make like panasonic rubycon etc.
New board or kit is not the only alternative you could buy a set of caps from RS Electronics or CPC or Digikey or Farnell. Make a list and price them up you can ofetn replace all the caps for the same price as the kit which only covers some of the caps. It is unlikely that you will need the BIG cap.
If you buy a replacement board it could still need recapping before to long.
It does of course depend on whether you have the equipment and skills to replace the caps.
In answer to your main question - I am sorry I do not know if the boards are compatible - perhaps the seller would advise or be prepared to take the board back if it was not?

You dont say if you have searched the forums for info on the 225bw here is one
which might give you some ideas

      Hi selldoor,

Many thanks for your reply. I am an electronics teacher so ordering the capacitors shouldn't be a problem. I was just wondering if anyone knew any differences in architecture between REV0.1 and REV0.2 that would affect the various other PCBs/components in the monitor. From looking at it, it seems as though it shouldn't be a problem.

Have you fixed a 225bw before? What caps did you use?

A huge thank you for replying! It's really appreciated :-)

No I have not fixed a 225bw - Id guess all the info you could ever need will be in the
post I suggested. If you just read the last page it lists the caps others replaced and one member says the 2 version board is good.

It is quite common for power supplies,to be the same electronically ie same I/Ps and O/Ps, to have fixing holes in the same place, but have different components,it basically depends on who makes them, what Version etc. So provided you are happy that it will fit exactly, and it is electronically the same, then there should not be a problem.

            Samsung Syncmaster 740BF repair

            Hi folks,

I'm new here and was wondering whether you might be kind enough to give me some advice on troubleshooting the following problem:

Quite a few years ago now, a couple of years from new, my Samsung Syncmaster 740BF LCD monitor starting playing up by making a buzzing noise and then the display would go blank. I seem to remember the blue power led would also go off when this happened but that I'm not 100% sure of. By pressing the power button I do remember I could at first get it working again but eventually the problem would come back. At the time I had read about...

Is it no harm to replace with capacitor without ripple current rating?
            by chth96
When I tried to repair LG 29 inch CRT TV, I found that the ESR value of samyoung SMS capacitor(160v 2.2uf), which is very close to D1879 transistor, is 6 ohm.

Judging from above ESR Meter Table,I think It is necessary to replace this sms capacitor. So I visited local electronics shop, and I purchased 160v 2.2uf rubycon YK capacitor.
But when I browse through rubycon YK datasheet,I found that there is no ripple current rating for 160v 2.2uf specification. But On the contrary, I found 39 mA ripple current rating for 160v 2.2uf SMS capacitor.
            Rubycon YK DataSheet (b...

Opinions/Advice on Do/Should I replace ALL Electrolytic Capacitors on old equipment?
            by RetroComputingGrotto
I've just been repairing some (very) old speakers with a loud hum that occurred as soon as you powered them on regardless if any actual audio is played through them. I work in a School so it's 99% likey that the Teachers have hardly ever turned the power off on them for well over 10+ years.

As you can see the top large capacitor on the right has a bulge on the top so defincately needs replacing. As the one next to it is exactly the same capacity and voltage I planned to replace them both.

What is your advice/opinion on whether or not on old(er)...

Is it okay to replace 1/2 watt resistor with 1 watt resistor in AC/DC adapter?
            by chth96
I have purchased an 100-240v AC/5v 2a DC adaptor from aliexpress, and a month ago It smelled burning when I plugin it powerstrip.
Since then, This AC/DC adaptor have been out of order.
But A few days ago,I replace 0.5 watt resistor with 1 watt resistor(1ohm) in this adapter.
After replacing resistor,It succeed to recharge all of android phone. And When I measure voltage on the two pins of USB port,It shows 5.5v
Is it okay to replace 1/2 watt resistor with 1 watt resistor in AC/DC adapter?
And Is there any possibility that it will suddenly explode as well as to be out...

Conformal coating on Samsung U32D970 monitor PSU, do I need to replace after repair?
            by psyduck
I have a Samsung U32D970 monitor from 2015 I pulled out of the bad hardware pile that turned on and then turned itself back off after a few minutes of use and refused to turn back on. The PSU has part number BN44-00786A, and I found a couple posts about one that had blown with damage to the MOSFETs and PWM controller - but nothing about intermittent failures. I started a new thread and said that I would refresh the solder joints on the board to see if it was just a bad connection and possibly replace the PWM and PFC ICs. I then asked what my next course of action would be after those steps. I...
