Hanns G 281D Power On Problem

    Hi,
I'm having the same problem as Rushstrike in older thread on Hanns G281D monitor problems: I'm having to press the power button many times (sometimes 50 or more) to get the monitor to start up. Switch seems fine. Once powered on it works flawlessly. Retiredcaps suggested replacement of the start-up capacitor, but I can't find identification or suggestion of which capacitor this might be in the old threads. (I do have a set of replacement capacitors sold by Amazon, but it is a partial set of the capacitors on the switching supply board, so I need to be selective in my replacement approach.) Any suggestions where to start? I can see no noticeable defects to the appearances of any of the caps on the boards.
    Thanks!
    Bob

Re: Hanns G 281D Power On Problem

      Welcome to the forum-
What make/series are the caps if not a recognised good brand they may not work in this application. Start up cap is generally a 50v 47u or 68u on the primary side of the power supply.

As Rtech says we can help a lot more if you please post good clear pictures of the whole chassis, and then pictures of each board, front and back and close up of connectors, (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) using the manage attachments button, which is found by clicking "go advanced" under quick reply.

Please do not post inline and offsite as they slow down the loading of pages.

It will be useful if you can say what the supposed fault was and a bit about yourself - skills tools etc.

Thanks for the photo recommendation. Attached are photos of front and back of board. The shield on the line voltage side is soldered to the board so I didn't remove it for the picture. Maybe some filtering for the transformer? -- has 2 small electrolytic caps and 1 420V 150uf electrolytic inside the shield.
The switching supply is PHIHONG model PSM217-404-H-R. Thanks for the quick response and please let me know if you need more info.

BTW, I can solder/desolder, but my electronics experience is more hobbyist level low voltage analog and digital circuits in support of scientific instrument projects.

Your description sounds consistent with caps that are dry and have high ESR. As the caps warm up, the ESR drops allowing the lcd to work.

Since we have had so many reported issues with this monitor running temperature hot, I suggest you consider recapping all electrolytics caps on the power and logic board. This might cost you $20 in caps, but to save a 28 inch monitor, I think it is worth the investment.

The megathread for this monitor is the 10th most viewed thread in the troubleshooting lcd section which give you an idea the problems with this monitor.

As retiredcaps above , but just in case it is something silly can you resolder most of the joints on the top right hand corner in your "back of the board" picture. One looks burnt? Examine the rest with a magnifier and see if there are any cracks.
Im not very good translating backs to fronts but I think it is the transformer?

Thank you all very much for your quick responses and suggestions! I have replaced nearly all of the electrolytics on the power supply board and the LCD display's start up problem seems to be resolved.

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

Problem with LG Plasma 60PM6700 - Random power downs
                by theone111
I have an LG Plasma TV 60PM6700 for the past ~12 years.

In the last ~3-4 months I have been having some issues.
                1. Problem: It started with random picture disappearing (sound still worked).
Frequency: Happened about once a week.
Solution: Had to turn off TV wait a few seconds before turning it on again.
                2. Problem: Then it got worse and the TV started to shut down and when turning on the no picture just sound.
Frequency: Happened about once a week.
Solution: Had to turn off TV wait about 10-20 seconds and turn it on again to solve.
                3. Problem: TV shuts down

When I reflash again the bios of hoaca388 the unit powers on and the unit lives!!! Hooray!! All voltage in the coil 3.3v, 5v and 6.7v indicate charging are all present. including the cpu voltage , EEPROM and GPU voltage the unit is now alive, normal screen booting to windows and log in screen until I power it off. Then the unit never goes on even when pressing the power button in the keyboard.. Voltage reading 19v main , 3.3v VCC in IT8225E-128 and EEPROM VCC 0 volt and the charging voltage 0 volt.

Try to trace the power switch button goin to the power switch IC PU8803 (APL3533AQBI-TRG)...

                by Dr.d
I have a lenovo ideapad 5 14itl05, board LA-K321P, That will only power up on Battery only, or with battery disconnected and power adapter only. If battery is connected and usb-c power plug connected. It only works on battery and will not charge. I can however force it to charge by connecting the battery from a disconnected state while the power USB c plug is powering the laptop.

Additionally....to add to this strange situation. The usb-c power plug ONLY works to power the laptop on one side when inserted into the boards power usb c plug. If you rotate it 180 degrees, the board gets...

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
                by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...
