Proview 900P Board Problem (with pictures)

Hello everyone. I'm so glad a forum like this exists!

I bought a Proview Model 900P Product Number Pl916s2 at a flea market for 3$. When I took it home and tried it, it only is able to display for a few seconds.

Curious I opened the monitor and hoped to see a problem. I found that the board (Mirage Electronics Pl-170DTLA) is burnt. I attached a picture of the front of the board and back of the board to this message. I'm not sure what this burnt component is. (Is it a transformer?) I'm really a newbie to all of this, and am just hoping to learn something because I've always been interested in computers.

Does this look like the board could be fixed or would I need a whole new board?

Any thoughts/ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

That is an inverter transformer, and is probably the cause of the problem you described. The board is probably repairable; what numbers are on the transformer?

Thanks so much for the information, PlainBill.

The numbers on the inverter transformer are a bit hard to read. I think it says:
      730-703-1700TLAH<B>
      EEL19-AD1700 HL 0604

I'll attach a picture of the numbers just in case.

I think it is so great that it could be repairable. I'm willing to try. I've never soldered before, however, it sounds like a great learning experience. Thanks for the help!

It sounds like you have 2 seconds to black. A bad inverter transformer is certainly one of the causes. If you are new, have a read through posts #19 and #20

        https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=10419

You can also test the inverter transformer if you have a multimeter to see if anything damaged.

Not much luck finding a transformer for that inverter. The power board is available on eBay at an unreasonable (IMHO) price.

Hi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic...

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

            Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

Sony KDL-40Z4500 LCD with stripes and 9 blinks (possible BGC board or harness problem
            by huj3r
            Hi there!

I have a Sony Bravia KDL-40Z4500 which shows a colored vertical stripes pattern when turning on, with a central black shadow that slowly dissipates within the first 10 seconds.

Photo of the situation after the black shadow dissipates:

After this behavior the red LED will blink 9 times, then pause for a bit, and blink again 9 times, in a loop.

I checked the manual (available here) and this corresponds to "HFR error", quoting from the manual:

            > This indicates HFR Communication error. [ HFR Communication...

Looking for help with a Viewsonic VP230mb where the backlight comes on only momentarily
            by lostone
Hello, I came here after finding some similar questions asked on other monitors and hope someone here can help me get an ancient Viewsonic VP230mp (23" 4:3 LCD) back to working condition.

First a little background, I have a background in computer and electrical engineering, and I'm smart enough to know I know nothing about LCD displays and how they work. For this topic I'm as green as they come.
When the display is turned on the viewsonic logo displays in the uppper left for 2 seconds then the screen goes black, the power LED is green (on) and when a computer is connected...
