Viewsonic VX1962WM - Very pixelated, flickering, powers off at random

    First post here

My Viewsonic VX1962WM (1680x1050 @ 60Hz, 19") has, for the last week or so, been extremely pixelated, flickering, and powering off randomly. I've owned it for three or four years

All of these problems occur on every computer I test this monitor on, so the problem lies with the monitor, not any software.

I've opened up the monitor and disconnected the board, but I'm not sure how to identify capacitor problems, so I took some pictures:

    Some things I'm concerned about:
In picture #1, there's a lot of clear, darkish glue-like stuff around the little blue things. Is that supposed to be there? Also in picture 1, there's white glue-like stuff around the capacitors; is that supposed to be there?

In picture #3, the black capacitor seems slightly distended at the top. Is it supposed to look like that?

    Thanks!

Yes, the glue is supposed to be there. As for pic #3, i can't see anything wrong, you should have made the picture at an angle so that the top of the capacitor could be seen.

This sounds more like a logic board issue than anything else. Do you have a multimeter?

    A working TV? How boring!
