The resistor is close enough tolerance of 5%.
That cap needs to be replaced.

Would that be a possible cause of my 2 seconds to black screen? I can find that caps on E**Y and get a couple. The R508 resistor measures 1.44 Meg. I think the color code is brown, green, green. I think that is 1.5 Meg and the tolerance code is gold.

I had a similar situation, in my case however, c504 was clearly fried. (c504 is a 12pF, 3000 volt ceramic disc capacitor.)

I took my monitor apart and removed the C504 capacitor and measured it with a B-K Precision capacitor tester. It reads 3pF and I did the test several times. Is it true that the correct value is 12pF and that may be the source of my problem? This monitor is 8 years old and when it is working is really nice, but not worth putting much money into.

I tested resistor R508 and the value is 1.44 M ohm

Brilliant info. Thanks. I took a photo of the connections before disconnecting, or so I thought. Then spent quite a while searching on the internet for the answer to the connections and found this post.

I located and replaced the blitzed capacitor (C504) with this http://tinyurl.com/h9bft46. However the fix does not seem to be successful or at least complete. I only replaced the one capacitor because it was clearly fried, but not any other components. this project is sorta beyond my patience level and lack of diagnostic tools/knowhow. Nevertheless, thanks to all who offer their time to help others.

I'm inclined to buy a whole power supply board, if I can find one.

Okay, I have replaced the c504 with a 12pf 3kv capacitor and made sure the lamps have the correct wiring but it still doesn't seem to want to power on :/ Is it possible something else is blown? The first time I tried to power it on I had the wires in the wrong lamps and the power supply was not mounted, i saw a spark and there is a very tiny black dot/charred area above the label. Could this have caused something else to blow, because everything else on the board looks fine. Any help is greatly appreciated.
All the previous posts have been very helpful with teardown and what to look for.

You have 4 individual lamps set up in two pair for the top and bottom edges of the LCD panel. The pink and blue pair can go into either pair of the receptacles on the board.
So what you have as shown in the picture, the left pair the pink one can go into the left most connector, the blue can go into the connector to the right of it, and so on.

Hi,
I am aware this is an old thread, but would anyone be able to help me with a couple of the plugs? There are four slots that say "8AN3" near where the capacitors are. I am not sure which cords go into them.

Just got my order from Mouser including the 12pf 3kv and 3pf 3kv caps and 1.5mOhm resistors. The resistors did not test not off-value once I removed them from the board, but they looked a little toasted so I swapped them anyway. The 3pf caps didn't test as defective either so I'm not sure they needed to be replaced. Anyway, my monitor, which would flash on for about 2 or 3 seconds and then go black, is all fixed now for about $10 instead of $200+ to replace the monitor. Many Thanks!!!

I was researching the N3 3KV SEC capacitor to confirm its value. SEC seems to be the Manufacters logo Success electronics LTD in Tiawan. They confirmed 3pf

Lots of good info in this thread! I have a similar problem but the difference in my situation is there is no message on the screen before it goes off. Image is present on LCD. Backlight comes on for a couple seconds and then just goes off. Inverter signal voltage is constant at multi-pin cable connection.

I have been able to determine that the backlight fluorescents are ok (hooked them up to a inverter board from a similar monitor : stayed lit), I had the blue ceramic caps in stock so I replaced them : no difference. What else is strange is that if I change the input source or turn the signal to the monitor on and off, the screen comes on for a couple seconds again each time. Initially I thought this might be a problem with the logic board signalling the power supply board. But like I said the inverter signal voltage is constant and I can trace the it to the small batch of SMD resistors and transistors just before the set of three 8 pin IC's before the step up transformers. Without a schematic I can't trace it through any further. It seems to be sensing something, or a cap or transistor is breaking down in that circuit.

What other signal factors are involved? What about feedback signal from the backlight output circuit? Anyone have a schematic for this board? I feel I am very close...

EDIT: Oh, forgot to mention. Once ceramic cap and 1.5m resistor were slightly discolored. As I said, I changed the caps, measured resistor and it measured OK.

Alternatively, if anyone has a picture of the ZD801 component, or can tell me what it says, it might give a clue what value it is. Mine is obviously unreadable, and I can't find any schematics anywhere.

Just registered so I could see the pictures—thank you for these posts; gave me the extra oompf to go the rest of the way, dismantling (this monitor is the most insane thing I've had to get into! and I thought laptop screens were annoying...). One of the 12J 3KV (C504) was horribly disfigured. Interesting that it seems to be that one in particular across the board...?
