    Slide-out CCFLs - lovely

Here i got a HP 1502. Cracked panel. I proceeded to remove the PSU and hard wire the BL pin to 3.3v to make a CCFL tester out of it. But i wanted to get the lamps out as well.

As i was preparing for a full panel teardown, i gave the area where the lamp wires entered the panel a closer look. "Um, what happens if i pull on it like this?" Hey presto... slide-out CCFLs complete with metal shields so they don't break. The lamps are in good shape and they're pretty honkin' bright. Just the right thing to light up my workbench methinks.

Turns out this inverter uses analog backlight control. A pot with the ends connected to 3.3v and ground and the center pin to the backlight control - and i got myself a dimmable workbench lamp. Even if it were PWM it wouldn't have been much harder - but this was stupid easy.

Nice! That could be quite useful when you take pictures. Good lighting = good pictures.

slide out ccfs are fairly common on desktop monitors. don't expect any on laptop screens, believe me, i've tried, they're stuck with this aluminum tape and soo easy to break and every screen model is different.

Exactly, Uranium-235. Not common feature like this. I would have to disassemble completely to get backlight repaired.

You'll never guess what I found recently.... A 15" or so desktop LCD that uses a laptop LCD panel. The panel is made by "Quantas". I was wondering why the screen was so light when I got it from the trash. The screen is made by "Nova".

The PCB is made my "EMAX". Nice design but awful caps. A mix of Hermei and Fuhjjyu caps. The logic board has all Evercon caps and oddly enough, the logic chip has printed on it "Novatek". I wonder if this is a coincidence?
"We have offered them (the Arabs) a sensible way for so many years. But no, they wanted to fight. Fine! We gave them technology, the latest, the kind even Vietnam didn't have. They had double superiority in tanks and aircraft, triple in artillery, and in air defense and anti-tank weapons they had absolute supremacy. And what? Once again they were beaten. Once again they scrammed [sic]. Once again they screamed for us to come save them. Sadat woke me up in the middle of the night twice over the phone, 'Save me!' He demanded to send Soviet troops, and immediately! No! We are not going to fight for them."

Sinotec LCD TV Model ST-42KC42F "CCFL lamps not switching on"
              by angelos
              Hi Guys,
It's been a while that i have been active on the forum, sorry for that. My primary job has been keeping me quite busy.
The above set starts up with sound working just fine but the CCFL lamps (Inverter) runs for one second and switches off.
My 24V supply is steady and the ON/OFF pin to the inverter is at +5V.
The only thing i see is the PWM signal pin is at +5V without any square wave being emitted. Is this normal? as far as i can remember there needs to be a square wave pulse there. Am i right?

I will now measure with my oscilloscope probe on...

              line powered filament LED lamps...
              by eccerr0r
I was playing with one of those "filament" LED lamps. I noticed it seemed to flicker a bit...so I tried powering it with different things to try to extract information about it - noticed it seems to be 100% LED - no droppers, no PSU, no rectifiers, nothing - the LED "filaments" are hooked straight to the contacts!

Wondering what's the distribution of how "filament" LED lamps are driven? Do any have capacitive droppers? rectifiers? CC PSUs?

              ---

Found another "filament" LED that does have a PSU in it, seems to be a capacitive...

MSI Raider GE75 - Not posting, probable dead CPU
              by FiguringITout
Hello, today I'm working on this lovely MSI Raider GE75 gaming laptop which I bought to flip. Unfortunately, I believe the CPU is toast but I wanted a second opinion before I chucked it into my spare parts bin. I will not have most tools with me today as I'm away from my workbench but I have the basics (a good multimeter, a horrible iron, a solid screwdriver, and my trusty thermal cam). I do not have the original 230w charger, but I have a Dell 180w which was sold with the device and reportedly "worked fine for them".

Specs: I7-10750H, RTX 2060, 32GB RAM (unknown manufacturer)...

Lg 55lb6000 lamps replaced -new issue after
              by sputnikoff
I had a lg 55lb6000 in for no backlight issue.Well i replaced them all as usual and took extra care with panel. When i reassembled all look well until i hooked up the hdmi source, there was slow motion blur on laft side about 1/4 of screen.I initially suspected t-con and had one so that wasn't it.I replaced main board also as i had one,no go.I ended up ripping those 4 tabs of panel and full brightness and screen returned to normal.Anyone else have experience like this?
