    Viewsonic VX2250WM - LED!

First LED repair which will be quite exciting yet nervous cause this model is only 6 months old and I did a few basic google searches and so far no real information on repairs. Taking this thing apart was a real treat cause it is alot thinner than traditional monitors and has 3 thin ribbon cables running to the panel. Not to mention there is a 3rd board in the little chassis.

Symptom: Plug in, now power, no light, no nothing.
So far for visual inspection, no blow caps or cold soldering or board burn marks.

Even though I know what I should check, I'd like to take a systematic approach to repairing this monitor to get practice rather than jumping to the obvious. So, if anyone has a list of 'to-dos' that would be greatly much appreciated.

(Sorry for the bad pictures, didn't want to set up my normal lighting tonight to take 6-8 pictures. BTW if you click on the pictures below, it will open a window within this one, click on it again and it will open the picture in the new tab, and you can click on it again to get a larger picture)

    No Warranty?

Check for AC mains x 1.414 = roughly 165V DC voltage across the large capacitor (C804). If present, check for secondary voltages to the logic board. If not present, check for blown fuse or shorted bridge rectifier.

For a 'totally dead' problem I usually check the output of the power supply first. If there is no output, I go check across the large cap. I prefer to keep the probes away from them whenever possible.

Yours is first ever to grace badcaps forums with this LED backlight monitor.

PlainBill's method is safer. I now use aligator clips leads when possible for measuring the main filter capacitor.

That mains cap would be a pain in the ass to find a replacement for. Looks like some custom made job.
              What is its rating?

Looks like I'm just going to RMA the sucker even though I'm not the original owner. So this will not be the first LED repair of badcaps.net

Just a FYI. I recently came across one of these VX2250WM exhibiting this no power/lights symptom. My work has lots of them so I was able to compare it to another and found that the power button was stuck in due to a design flaw lip ridge in the button cavity and an overzealous user mashing it in past the lip so it was stuck. I confirmed on the spare that holding the power button down when plugging it in caused it to look dead. There was no way to pry the button out from the front so I took the stand off and drilled a small hole through the clear plastic behind the button and push it out with a paperclip. Has worked fine ever since.

                        Re: Viewsonic VX2250WM - LED!

Bought the VX2250WM and after 3 weeks it died. The blue light on/off button is constantly lit, but there's nothing on the display, tried connecting to different computer with VGA or DVI with no luck.

I used my spare monitor and forgot about this one. One week later and I plugged it in and it started working again. Alas after 4 hours it died again, but this time the blue light is off.

Left it unplugged for one night and hey presto it works again. Well I've called tech support and they will pickup and hopefully fix this annoying problem.

The other problem it exhibits is after running for about 15 mins, you can't switch the monitor off from the on/off button.

I also have a Viewsonic VX2250 with an odd problem. The menu button (not really a button, but more of a touch sensitive area) is stuck on. It usually brings up the menu after a few minutes of the monitor being on and uncontrollably scrolls through the audio adjust menu. If I turn the monitor off and on it comes back after a few seconds or minutes. HELP!

I've had the Viewsonic VX2250 monitor since 12/2010. In the last few months it has ocassionally gone black for a few seconds, then return. The blue power light remains on, and remains blue at all times. Recently, this is happening more frequently. I've updated the driver to Win 7-64. I've run the monitor on another computer and have the same problem, so I have ruled out driver and graphic card as the problem. I'm thinking that I have a leaky cap on the power supply board of the monitor. Has anyone else had this problem? Am I headed down the right path? Has anyone replaced the caps or do you know of a YouTube video that shows which caps to replace? Thanks for your help!

VX series and actually just about all the Viewsonic monitors failed due to bad caps, that will be the first thing to look for.
See my pictures of failed viewsonic here:http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/y...udm/VIEWSONIC/
You will replace them as a set of caps.

                                    hi all ,
i am a lcd repair guy from Taiwan , just solve a failure case vx2250wm same as told of 16f , found x101 almost malfunction ( not totally dead ) , please using scope touch the pins of x101, if system shutdown ( it should not ) ,
then please try replace the x'tal about 12.000mhz.
the amptitude of frequency was lower then a normal item , when scope touching , the amptitude gone , then it will come back again in few second , the picture maybe goes white or goes black with backlite on .

and had backup the file about the firmware from pm25lv020 , if somebody need it please let me know .

the caps was fine ,no need to replace.

If anyone is interested, my monitor exhibited the same symptoms. No power, mo power LED ON. Clue was that the voltage across C807 was 7V. it should be 16V. Further measurements showed that the +19V rail showed 6 ohms to ground. The problem was traced to C504 ceramic capacitor (2.2uF, 50V). Removal of the offending capacitor cleared the problem. Replacement resulted in a working monitor.
