I was successful in my repairs, Both displays came back to life. But I have no pictures to show for it, since I have no camera, never needed one until now.
25mm was a tight fit, I put washers in the samsung to give a little air space between the top of the caps and the casing, and 25mm 1000uF for viewsonic I just curve it. Repairs were simple, my technique worked fine with my 25w wellers. I added solder then used the de-soldering wick to remove the old solder and the caps just fell out of the PCB, didn't even get messy.
