Re: LG L246WH-BN power on. No display
What replacement capacitors did you use, what were the old ones?
Please can you post photos of the power board after reading these instructions https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1868 -
Re: LG L246WH-BN power on. No display
Thank you for quick reply, I will post photos later.
First time I just replaced two cheaper 3300uf 16v caps.
Then, I was feeling might the cheaper caps issue. Then I replaced two Panasonic caps which is 3300uf 25v caps in the power board now.
But monitor still does not show up. Should I replace remain those caps as well?Last edited by xqoliver; 01-09-2011, 06:20 PM.Comment

Re: LG L246WH-BN power on. No display
Capacitors die from age, heat, and shoddy build quality. Capacitors DO NOT have to be visibly bloated in order to bad. They can be out of tolerance uF (a 1000uF measures 20uF) and/or have high ESR (ohm). A multimeter will be insufficient to test for ESR. For that you need an ESR tester which costs between $50 and $300.
Most members here will recommend that you replace ALL capacitors with reputable brands from reputable sellers. Brands like Rubycon, Panasonic, and United Chemicon are suggested. A list of recommended caps can be found at

There are two bad caps but there are hole for three capacitors with one unpopulated. I used all three hole when I replaced them. I made a complete repair/troubleshooting video:

Same here. LG 246WH from 2008, failed September 2015.
Disassemble it and there were 2 caps clearly busted on the power supply board. Unknown brand, 2200uF, 10v, 105ºC 10mmD 24mmH.
Same as Kent Diego. Great tutorial in You Tube. Thank you man.
I also found a good photo based tutorial at : http://www.ardnut.co.uk/blog/2011/12...to-turn-on.htm
I changed only the two caps, and voila, good old LG 246 back to life.

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?by Tynan DillI was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.
Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.
I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.
The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.
With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

by momakaNormally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow.
But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though.
I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

by PantherDaveHi all!
I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅
I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

by eryjusHello,
First, I am a complete noob with high voltage stuff. I'm learning, but I need help by someone looking over my shoulder.
I recently came into posession of a Heathkit IO-4205 5MHz Dual Trace Oscilloscope. The documentation is copyright 1978. I'm told it works.
I opened it up to check the caps before I applied power, and found the following black caps and wanted to know what they were. They are on the power supply board. I was able to read the name and model and came up with, "Nytronics 162J-1, 0.1uF, 20% tolerance, 2000VDC."
