Re: Sony STR-DN1030 Distorted audio when Volume adjusted
Well, if that’s the case you need to go through all the amplifying stages. You may have to take transistors out too and measure the hfi gain. Also look at the input stages, make sure levels are equal.

Re: Sony STR-DN1030 Distorted audio when Volume adjusted
Will do.. just looking at diagram of page 17... if I apply input at SA-CD/CD Audio In then listen to audio Either front phones (page 19) or any of the speakers I hear the distortion. This tells me that the IC400 is the issue or IC2105 (Page 17)? I don't know how the volume control adjusts the gain?Leave a comment:

Look at the block diagram like page 19. It tells you all you need to know. Plus you can always pull up spec sheets of individual pieces to figure out the pinouts.Leave a comment:

Re: Sony STR-DN1030 Distorted audio when Volume adjusted
first I'd do all of page 6. Read page 13 and make sure this thing is totally cleared of everything. The hard part is to figure out if that is an alignment issue or an actual hardware fault of some sort.
I usually start from the back and work my way towards the front. Compare each amplifying stage in and output from the bad channel to the good channel. Check what comes out of the DAC. See what goes into the DAC.Leave a comment:

Re: Sony STR-DN1030 Distorted audio when Volume adjusted
I figured that would be the case. See if you can find a service manual and an oscilloscope. Shotgunning things won’t help much here.Leave a comment:

Re: Sony STR-DN1030 Distorted audio when Volume adjusted
Just to add more info.. this distortion upon volume up / down happens even with Bluetooth source and listening with the headphone on the front jack. Seems to be common to everything.Leave a comment:

Re: Sony STR-DN1030 Distorted audio when Volume adjusted
Try to bypass all digital processing. If it is still there, the problem has to be on the pre amp or amplifier stage. A oscilloscope would be almost a must here to see what is happening where. Then you can compare inputs and outputs of each individual stage.Leave a comment:

Tried both, reset and calibrate - no changeLeave a comment:

Re: Sony STR-DN1030 Distorted audio when Volume adjusted
maybe just an calibration issue. I'd do a factory reset and let it auto calibrate... see if it fixes your problem.Leave a comment:

Sony STR-DN1030 Distorted audio when Volume adjusted
New to Audio equipment. Received this 7.2 Surround Sound system - had a blown channel and fixed that (0.22 ohm resistor, 2 transistors, and 1 100 ohm replaced)
All channels now work. However, when I raise the volume with knob or remote, it doesn't work smoothly - you can heard distortion, and some speakers don't seem to work at max or somewhere in between..
First thought was the actual audio switch - but then Remote volume control shouldn't have this problem, but it does.
Second thought was the ribbon cable from front display to control board (V-Flex, 29 pin Cable) was pitched in the process and repaired it for testing. Though I can't seem to find a replacement for it anywhere.
Any thoughts what to look for here?

by crackedprintI have a strange fault on a Sony amplifier. The volume control varies the display from MIN, then 1 up to 30 and then MAX as expected. At MIN there is no sound. However, at 1 it is quite loud and increasing above 1 does not change the sound level.
I have tried a Cold Reset as per the service manual.
I have looked at the I2C clock and data to volume control chip IC501 (BD3499FV). Data is only sent to IC501 when the volume is set to MIN or 1. At any other setting no data is sent to IC501.
I have looked all the way through the service manual and tried many online...-

by ajvpbHi all,
Hobbyist repairman here so I've reached the end of my troubleshooting abilities. The audio out of the FL+FR speakers is very distorted and almost unintelligible. BUT! That only applies to digital audio; Analog plays through just fine. The distortion carries to headphones if those are plugged in with audio from a digital source. All other speaker channels play fine regardless of digital or analog.
Previous experience with similar distorted audio has been bad resistors on the amp output - Could bad smd resistors on the hdmi board cause the same problem? My understanding...-

The Problem: This player has a toggle switch to select between Stereo, Mono R, and Mono L. Regardless of the setting it outputs the sound to both the L&R audio jacks. In the Mono R position, the audio output level is normal (from both the L and R audio output jacks), in the Stereo position the audio output is about half the volume, and in Mono L, it's about 3/4 the volume. Something about putting it into Stereo mode is causing the volume to drop significantly and I can't figure it out.
The player processes the audio signal using two different reference frequencies. The "R"...2 Photos -
by UserXPDear all,
I have this old radio clock by Sony from the early 80s, I guess. The clock display works, but is dim, the function board appears to be OK - but the radio unit shows no signs of life. It doesn't produce a single noise, crack or anything from either FM or AM band. It's like it doesn't even power up.
i opened the radio and it is full of some TRACON gray capacitors. They only have their negative strip printed, voltage and capacitace markings - no series, no temperature marking, nothing else.
My question is, do you know of this brand of capacitors and how bad are...-

by karthurOn this Vizio D65x, the volume will change on its own. I don't mean like during commercials where the volume will increase. I mean its like the (+) volume button on the remote is pressed and the actual volume dialog is displayed on the screen going up. It will do this, then the volume may start going down. It might go all the way to "0"or it might stop at a different number, then start going back up. The whole time its doing this, the volume dialog is shown on the screen.
It wont do it until it has been "ON" for 20 or 30 minutes, so it does seem to be heat related.... - Loading...
