TV that only has headphone out to receiver/amp

Hello All... Grateful for this site!

I just repaired a 70inch Sharp flat screen I found on the curb in NYC (there are 1000s) thanks to the good folks on this site

I have a question about an audio signal from a TV that only has a headphone jack as a audio output source. I have it hooked up now with a headphone style adapter that converts the headphone plug to an RCA. I plug this into my PHONO input on the receiver. To play it this way I need to turn volume waaaay down on TV and volume up higher than I think I should on the receiver. I get undertone hissy sound, blunt sounds from speakers when I turn the thing off and on,,, it's not good - I'm afraid of damage to the receiver due to too much power from the headphone output to an input that is supposed to be minimally amped, all that.

QUESTION: Is there a simple device I can purchase that can be put between the headphone jack and the receiver that will reduce the signal strength going into the receiver?

what model of tv is it? Why are you using a phono input and not a regular "aux type" input. Depending on the receiver, the phono input has certain impedance requirements and resulting preamp gains before heading towards the main amp section.

      Hey Man. Thanks.

When I use the AUX ports on the back of the Sony receiver I get NO sound. It's strange. I thought that would be my inlet... It's a "INSIGNA" TV. Cheap, but it's working for me...

do not plug into phono as that's low level input for playing records . plug into aux or whatever other input it has .

you likely turned down the tv volume too low for the "aux" rca inputs to provide proper signal. try turning the tv volume back up to near max. It should work albeit would be not the greatest sound because there will still be a mismatch of expected impedance but should be usable. As posted, the phono input for most amps will usually not be a good input for any other signal type than a record player due to design intent (impedance, equalization and gain).

without the actual model number of the set, it hard to give any other possible solution.

Thank you! You nailed it, and I feel dumb...

I swapped around the wires, turned the tv volume up to near max,,, low and behold - there was sound! A much much better (no more hiss - or clunk when I turn the TV off with eceiver on) than what it was, tho it still ain't right...as you say, for the reasons you say. Thanks much.

Running out of Ideas, hoping someone smart can provide some for my ONKYO TX-SR353 Receiver
              by CDNBrewer
              Hello Everyone,

I have an Onkyo TX-SR353 Audio/Video Receiver (5.1 ch with HDMI) that I am having a really hard time diagnosing and I'm about to throw this in the junk and go buy a new unit that is on sale until the 7th.

              Symptoms:
              • Intermittent (part of the reason why i'm having a hard time isolating problem), sometimes will work for 10+h at a time without issue
              • Original symptom was wife reported loud banging noise (like someone was banging on the wall with their fists) from the LEFT SURROUND speaker and then the unit shut off.
              • I swapped the Left and Right surround
              ...

              by wolf1976
hi i have a receiver that is destroyed from the overvoltage i guess
my question is has three wires u v w for driving a motor fan i found an other receiver wireless from aliexpresss with the same propertiew but for dc motor
the motor fan has not label
i have an other receiver operational
In your opinion can i measure the voltage at the output ?
what do you suggest me with a simple instrument multimeter or using someone instrument more specific ?
              thanks in advance...

              Rotel RSDX-02E headphone mode
              by Tom_x
              Hi!

I need help to disable headphone mode on this unit!
Someone played buttons on front panel and now no sound on speakers. When i push the Surround button, only HEADPHONE MODE appear
Amplifier does not have headphone connector in front, only 3-pin on main board and factory grounded the hpsw line

i tried all combination on front panel, but no success....
In sevice manual no info about full reset, only reset speakers settings to default.

              Anyone have info?

              regards
              Tom

DSE GE6878 possible TV receiver dying remote not working well
              by CdDvdFlash
For this Dick Smith TV GE6878 (Thompson) I replaced the broken remote with a universal it kinda works though if its more than a few meters away sometimes the buttons register and sometimes they wont so I bought another remote from another brand and it has the same problem, I've had an old TV in the past that the sensor died completely and I replaced it to fix it could this be a similar problem? I tried looking for a service manual, spare parts for a receiver and a parts list but I couldnt find any info. can someone please help me to find the info online for a service manual or where I can buy...

Denon AVR-2700H audio stops while receiver still works
              by Cornito
              Hello team,

              I've got a new issue with a Denon Avr-2700H.
After several minutes working, receiver stops playing sound with a poc eared in the speakers.
Receiver still work and display video with error message on display.
Seems to me that is the main output relay.

I'm looking for the service manual that I can't find for the moment.

              Does somebody have it?

              Regards...
