Re: Von Hotpoint 2.1 subwoofer
Checked the caps with what exactly?
The board is basically destroyed here, take a look on the bottom, I guess the solder is melted and you have a bad connection:
As stj said replacing this with a proper rated bridge rectifier would be one way to go.
Another would be to throw it in the trash where it belongs:
Whenever I see a silly fuse like that I just know the manufacturer is trying to burn my house down!"The one who says it cannot be done should never interrupt the one who is doing it."Comment

Re: Von Hotpoint 2.1 subwoofer
The device would not have been more expensive to design correctly: Use a fuse with the proper distance/length.
And place the diodes higher off the board with proper spacing, they come with long legs from the factory for a reason...
The fact that these companies in China makes such rookie mistakes even when they save no money by doing so just shows that they don't know how to design a safe circuit.
Having your house burn down is no fun no matter where in the world you live!"The one who says it cannot be done should never interrupt the one who is doing it."Comment

by rustinjustI've got a subwoofer that I've had for nearly 20 years, it did come with a basic remote which I've lost. It's a generic make of subwoofer, I can't see a brand sticker on it. It comes with 2 speakers.
Question recently I've connected it up to my tv which has greatly improved the sound on my tv, however I'd like to be able to mute the subwoofer when ads come on or just mute it when the phone rings etc. I tried using a cheap all in one tv remote on the subwoofer and the volume button would only work to increase volume but not turn it down or mute it

by DelicieuxzI get a faint, low hum through my PC speakers, which connect to the subwoofer in a 2.1 speaker system. The hum drives me crazy and makes me stressed. When I turn off the subwoofer, everything is quiet and I start to relax, lol.
Here's an audio clip of the sound coming from my speakers:
https://vocaroo.com/16HaryHwTx78
I recorded with my phone's mic right next to the speaker, and the mic picked up a lot of speaker noise over top of the hum. But I don't hear that noise in the room, I just hear the lower-pitched hum that's buried beneath all the other...-

by Xan03Hi,
I have this 2.1 Klipsch set where the subwoofer emits a constant whine in standby, in addition to a constant rhythmic pulsing/thumping. Only way to make it stop is to cut power. I think this thread mentions the same issue, though my set is not a BT one: https://community.klipsch.com/index....-bt-subwoofer/
I think all this Klipsch gear is using crappy capacitors. Is it worth trying to replace the caps in the subwoofer amp to make this go away?-

by jinu_jHi Folks
Need some advice on how to test a subwoofer amplifier if i have access to only a multimeter.
Problem
I have a Boston Acoustics active Subwoofer (soundware S). Its rated output is 200W. But the output i am getting is very low i can barely hear/feel it even if put the gain at max. I replaced all the capacitors in the Subwoofer amplifier but still no change.
Is there anyway to test this without getting an oscilloscope/Function generator to see if the fault is with amplifier, driver or the source??
Any advice would be appreciated...-
