    Definitive Technology Subwoofer repair

I have a Definitive Technology compact subwoofer that went belly-up and started buzzing constantly instead of producing any sound. After research, I decided to try replacing the primary 6800uf 80v capacitors . After replacing the caps, the behavior has changed, but not really for the better. Instead of getting a constant buzz, I get a periodic buzz/pop/burp sound. Hard to describe, so I posted a video clip:

    https://drive.google.com/file/d/12tS...ew?usp=sharing

I apologize for some of the background noise which is a clothes dryer in the next room and not coming from the amp. The only sound coming from the amp is the very loud "burping" noise starting around the 00:41 mark in the video.

Unless I'm crazy, the sounds starts out slow and picks up repetitive speed as it remains powered. If anyone has any suggestions for what might be wrong and whether it is reasonably fixable, please let me know.

The google drive link requires sign in... make it public or upload it somewhere else. Also, upload some HD photos of the amp board.

Upload the pictures to the forum using Go Advanced, then click the paperclip to attach the pictures. What's the model number?

Will do as soon as I can get some HD pictures of the board.

It is pro sub 800... and it looks like there are at least two versions of that model.
From the pics in the internet also looks like a class a/b amp.

ps here is an SM for another DT sub.. I'd guess, they use the same main idea thru the majority of their models. <--- WRONG, this SM is for a sub with STK4050, while the OP's uses descrete amp.

If the main caps were replaced and now you have a different problem, I suspect this is a double sided board and the feed-tru's were pulled out with the original caps. remove the new caps and inspect the traces for damage

If the traces are indeed damaged, is that reasonably fixable or is the unit basically shot? If it wasn't obvious already, I'm not an electronics expert.

This unit was dead already, so I figured I would give it a shot before it goes in the trash.

the best way to determine if your work is OK, would be to post a picture of the circuit area that you "disturbed" showing as much detail as possible of both side of the board / area. Based on my limited experience, you may not have found the problem capacitor or your repair, as discussed might need "help".

Grundig Vision 9 37 9880 T USB (Chassis SR) TV Repair Help - Distorted Subwoofer Sound and overall weird sound waveforms
                    by LEECH666
                    Good day ladies and gentleman!

I am currently trying to repair a Grundig Vision 9 37 9880 T USB LCD TV for a friend that has a weird audio problem. Basically everything works fine except for the heavily distorted sound when the Subwoofer module is connected and there is a buzzing sound coming from the PSU PCB.

This seems to be a rather rare TV so there is not much prior on topic help to be found however a service manual is available at the usual sources (Electro Tanya i.e.).

I think the PSU buzzing comes from one of the coils near the bridge rectifier but...

BASH Subwoofer Amp No Sound, Power Ok (Atlantic Technology 642eSB)
                    by nobbnobb1
                    Hello,

I have a really nice Atlantic Technology 642eSB subwoofer that I would love to get working. The problem is that the power appears ok (LED light is on), but there is no sound. I don't believe it to be the audio input board or anything wrong with the power as when in standby mode (LED = red), I can play a source and the LED turns green suggesting the input is being detected ok.

The amplifier is a common BASH design, my interpretation of the layout based on Picture #1:
                    - Top most hanging board is the audio input section. Note I accidentally broke the crossover...

                    NHT SW10 Subwoofer no sound
                    by redoxy
Unit was working then one day no sound with the unit humming when the power switch is in the off position. When I move the switch to the Auto or ON position, nothing happens, the humming stops but no sign of life (power LED was off). I opened the amplifier and noticed one of the main power 6800uF capacitors was bulging. I replaced both 6800uF capacitors and also replace the large resistors (R41 and R140) since they looked burned. The humming when power switch is in the off position was still present but the unit will power on now. Tried connecting signal to it but then no sound. When I move the...

what i went through dealing with my mobo with dead onboard sound!
                    by ChaosLegionnaire
so i took out one of my spare gigabyte ep35-ds3r mobos from storage for use to do some cpu, ram and video card testing of stuff i bought from ebay and got for free from momaka. he bought 50 e8400 cpus for cheap from ebay some years ago and i decided to help him relieve him of some of his supply since he had waaaay too many!! what did we say about hoarding too much stuff and depriving others of them?! *cough* socialism *cough* lol!

i had to blow some dust off the board and heatsinks with the datavac as i didnt clean it up before putting it in storage. after finishing...
