    Onkyo TX-NR807 no sound problem

    Hi guys!

    Got this Onkyo monster with a defect - it has no sound through speaker outputs as well as headphones (previously stated as fully working). Okey, thought it is a common problem of DTS IC or its firmware as the all others I have repaired before. Carefully inspected DSP IC, seems to be changed to the newest version (with a letter "D") and all FWs show OK.

    Started troubleshooting with a DMM and scope.
    Checked signal path and the signal is missing just after Q5501 - R2A15220FP - Input MUX IC. Checked before caps C5600 and C5601 so that Mute does not affect signal (if such is present). Voltage rails are OK, though (Please refer to the chematics part presented below).

    How likely this IC is damaged? Have anyone had such experience where R2Axxxxx Input Selector was defective?

      I remember seeing a video of a yamaha AVR repair, where the input selector/vol control was dead.

          I will start my own thread on this, but I thought I'd offer some perspective:

          I just had an HT-R590 receiver go bad. I get no sound from the speakers, but all video, FM tuner, etc functions seem to work. When I opened the unit, I noticed signs of heat (small burn mark) on the AMP board near the resistors for the +/-15V regulators, which is almost directly above the R2A15218FP (8 channel input selector) chip, which is undermounted to that board. I have been scratching my head trying to figure out the loss of audio output, considering all the relays seems to be functional (and this uses a wirebound (not flip-BGA) TI DSP chip on the HDMI board, which doesn't appear to be part of the big warranty extension from the last few years).

          I would be very interested to see if, indeed, the R2A15218FP chip goes bad frequently. I'll be watching to see your pointers on isolating the issue to there.

              Has the problem been solved? Is the integrated circuit damaged or the input selector defective?

                  Hello , no progress yet .

                  Have been really busy with other customer repairs , & needed to side line the amp for now , but be assured i won't give up till i trace route cause of the issue .

                  Will update soon as i have the opportunity to work on it again .

                      I recently acquired one of these TX-NR807 with no audio and the main digital board has not had any of the usual mods... cap changes, daughter board voltage reg or DSP chip replaced.

                      I started by flowing some liquid flux under Q3001 (DSP, D830K013BZKB300) and reflowing it as I have done with other units that use this chip.

                      It now works fine, audio out, network etc. This chip was on the TI 'premature failure' list, so it remains to be seen how long it lasts.

                          Hi.

                          I´ve been given an old CRT from Panasonic, it´s almost new, it was storaged and almost not used since bought.
                          It is imaculate inside, almost no dust or debris inside.
                          The picture is good, but I have no left sound channel, I tried all the inputs, outputs, even on headphone jack. In AV2 I hear sound from right channel but no image, on tv tuner only right sound channel, the same for AV1.
                          So I started to look for a service manual, I found one, and started from the beginning.
                          Most of the times the caps are the problem so I orderer all the caps for all boards,...

                          Hi everyone!

                          I turn to you in hope someone could point me in the right direction since I lack knowledge and experience in diagnosis of audio equipment. (My experience is in computer chip level repairs.)

                          I bought an Onkyo TX-NR609 receiver which initially produced no sound on speakers/headphones, there was no delayed relay click, speaker matrix icon didn't show up, USB/NET stuck in "Now initializing", instead of DSP/1st NET firmware version there were ?????????...

                          There was flux residue around the D830K013BZKB4 DSP chip (Q3001) on the HDMI...

                          How about everyone, I have a MacBook Air which did not turn on, it had a lot of corrosion on the card where the sound plug and the fingerprint go, I have replaced it and the device now turns on but has no sound, if I connect a headphone through the plug, yes There is sound but the external speakers do not sound....

                          Hi guys hope you all doing fine.I have an Onkyo HT-R960 from my uncle that he says he powered it on one day and no sound at all.I took it to try and repair it.I am also using it as an opportunity to start learning how to repair units like these and also amplifiers. When i first brought it home I also realized it wasn't outputting any video and audio tru the HDMI Ports.So followed a youtube video on how to change 5 caps to get HDMI output back.Did exactly that and now i have Picture tru the HDMI Ports.But still no audio. Checked a lot of voltages according to the schematic and also visually nothing...

                          I have a sound problem on my dell latitude 5300 2 in 1 laptop.
                          Sound was working on the laptop and I had 2 Intel drivers and one more. When I turn on a song on You Tube, there is no sound, I uninstalled the drivers and tried to install them again, but now in the device manager the sound card is not visible, it only has Intel HD
                          Please help me
