    Coustic AMP380

    Hi,

I've got a Coustic AMP380 car amplifier with a user manual but no schematic. It's got two output transistors shorted that I replaced a few years ago. It gets driven pretty hard by my son, but I'm curious if someone can tell what the two potentiometers might be for. They appear to eventually feed into the small transistor between the output transistors. The two TIP147s are shorted. When replacing do I need to match?

The two pots are likley idle current for each channel's outputs but could also be dc offset

Well only one TIP147 was shorted. I replaced both and found that the amplifier was still pulling way too much current sitting idle, voltage would drop to around 10. So I removed both TIP147s and then the rest of the amplifier powered up seemingly good.

Any hints what to check next?

How was the transistor shorted? if it was shorted C-B it is likely the driver transistor is also bad, Check all resistors and transistors in that circuit and compare to the working channel if needed. What are you using for a voltage supply, maybe it can't supply enough current?

The transistor was shorted C to E. I used a jump pack as a power supply when it worked (output stage removed) and when the voltage dropped (output stage installed). I also tried the car battery thinking that maybe the jump pack could not supply enough.

That was my thought as well, was to remove the driver transistor output to the output stage input connection and retry.

I traced out portions of the circuit and took some measurements of both channels. I lifted on side of R51 feeding the TIP147 pairs base to allow the system to power on.

My thinking is the the base of Q12 is suspect and I need to follow that.

The base of Q12 is fed by the emitters of TIP142/147 (after the 5W 0.1 ohm resistors and through R43) and on closer measurement of the TIP142 pair, resistance C to E does not match the good channel and does not differ based on polarity. I think one or both of the TIP142s is causing the problem.

Many times when one output (tip147) shorts, the excess current can damage the other one (tip142).

OK, sure enough, one of the TIP142s was bad. I replaced both and the amp now powers on and engages the speaker relay.

I am curious what the potentiometer adjustment should adjust. It seemed to influence the DC offset of the output. The good channel is +/- 1. The repaired channel is close to zero.

It could be for adjusting the DC offset which would be 0 volts across the output, OR it could be to adjust the idle current which would be the voltage across one of the (0.1Ω)emitter resistors, usually around 20~30mv (with no input signal) Check the voltage across the good channel emitter resistors

Huh, I'm measuring 1mV across both the good channel and repaired channel emitter resistors. The speaker outputs measure ~12mV on both channels.

It sounds okay under a light load.

It seems to be repaired, operate it for a while and see if anything is getting abnormally hot. 1mv is should be ok,
I was thinking of other amps that usually have a higher value emitter resistor and a higher voltage across them.

                          Hello,

Here I have GYSMI 160p welder with no output. Otherwise the machine is starting, the fan is spinning, but the output is zero... I disassembled the welder and found the problem. 3 out of 6 transistors are shorted, and 3 pairs of 4 resistors are burned... There's also 1 burned "ultra fast diod" on another board that is connected to the transformer. My question is how can I identify these burned resistors, I have no idea what value they should be, also I am not able to find any image of the board over the internet... The other part numbers are clearly visible, so I...

                          Hello:

I have both these laptops that appeared to have the same fault so I thought I would have a go at replacing the PCH as something to learn, they both are using the same PCH.

                          I started on the ACER:

Up on connecting power no signs of life but current is consumed from the bench power supply and the PCH is hot.
All the caps on the top of the PCH are showing 0 ohms and the 3.3v rail is shorted.

I followed the videos from Sorin, Electronics Repair School on Youtube heating from the bottom to install. I practised on around 10 scrap...

Hi every one. I just want to share the successful repair of my shorted Panasonic TNPA4782AB SC board.

I don't usually do it but so many parts were shorted that I decided to buy the ShopJimmy repair kit instead of sourcing each components individually. Here is the list of components the kit contained, with a remark indicating if I needed that part or not :

                          D608, good
                          D618 RF101L4S, good (See warning 1 below)
                          D619 RF101L4S, good (See warning 1 below)

                          Hi to all,
the owner of this machine gave it to me after having opened it to take off the dust from the inside, telling me that after that it didn't start anymore.
I found that one of the DrMOS (AOZ5016QI) on the CPUCORE was shorted between VIN and VSWH, and that one of the two n-mos connected to the power jack was shorted aswell.
I unsoldered the two shorted components and verified that there were no other short circuits, then decided to power the mainboard, firstly with the lab power supply, then with its original HP 200w charger, but the behaviour is the same, the board starts...

                          Hi,

                          today I got Razer Blade 14, Ryzen 9 6900HX and RTX 3070Ti.

Laptop was completely dead. I found shorted CPU VRM mosfet, shorted 19V mosfet and blown battery fuse.

I replaced it all, but still on CPU coil where mosfet was shorted I got very low resistance, near 0 ohms. On other CPU coils I got around 3 ohms.

Laptop now raises voltage on whole board, but still nothing comes on the screen. CPU gets 0.7V on all coils except the shorted one. CPU gets only slightly hot, below 40 C.

I removed coil and injected 0.7V, it draw around...
