Hi, i have a Philips HTS 9800 entertainment system for the past 3 years and it was working fine up until last week. I had it playing full blast for nearly a whole weekend and since then it only works fine on low volumes but if i try to bring the volume past half way it gets distorted and wont go any louder. The speakers are all fine, i have tested them on another system so I think its the amp. I opened it up earlier today to see if I could see any bulging/damaged capacitors inside but they all look to be ok. Has anyone ever come across this type of problem before? What should I be looking out for? There are two capacitors on the board that have a very slight bulge, by that I mean almost un-noticable. Before I go buying the capacitors and changing them out I just thought I'd check on the net to see if anyone has any suggestions. Any help would be much appreciated!

When it comes to caps and bulges slight is too much.

Re: Philips HTS 9800 problem
How large are these caps?
The size will give me an idea of what they do.
Is this just a receiver (amp and tuner) or does it also have a DVD player inside?
Good pics of the insides will help me determine what you need and if it might be other things. In the pic, note the location of the bad caps.Comment

I have here a Philips 47PFS7509/12 LCD TV which came to me with a weird problem : without signal i could access menu, make a factory reset, access menus, etc.
When i applied cable signal to check image, i had normal picture, but TV was restarting.
I downloaded original firmware and applied the update, but the problem remained.
From a colleague i received a "factory package software" which is a lot bigger.
I made another firmware update, but still did not solve the problem.
Somewhere on the way the error got worse, because at the moment the... -

I have since a long time a Philips HTS8010S/01 which has been old but was doing the job.
Since a few days, it starts by making a weird "static" nois when switches on for a few seconds to a minute and then works like a charm.
Noise loudly outputs from the 3 channels, even if no signal is sent by the controler.DVD to the subwoofer/amp unit.
I was thinking of a soldering that was starting to be damaged and that was only doing the job after a few seconds of heating, most probbaly on the power board

In the last ~3-4 months I have been having some issues.- Problem: It started with random picture disappearing (sound still worked).
Frequency: Happened about once a week.
Solution: Had to turn off TV wait a few seconds before turning it on again. - Problem: Then it got worse and the TV started to shut down and when turning on the no picture just sound.
