    Yamaha RX-V2067 in Protection Mode

    Hi All,

New member but have been following from the sidelines for a while. Been fixing some minor Power supply problems on Yamaha Receivers while we have been in lockdown to keep occupied. Got this RX V2067 a while ago and thought it would be an easy fix, but I have missed something and it has got me stumped on what else to look for.
On Power up the unit immediately turns off, the protection mode is kicking in I guess. I am able to disable protection mode at it take me into diagnostic mode and the only error I get is "PS2 PRT:162H" - From my understanding this indicated the fault is in Power Supply 2 and the fault is the Protection circuit. The values I get 162H, 162H and 164H indicates a voltage is high and outside the specs. I have checked 5v, -+12V and even found a 30v rail which all appeared to be fine. Not sure which voltage the PS2 PRT is monitoring so not able to focus in on a part of the circuit.
I am an old IT guy and have did some basic electronics some 35 years ago so pretty rusty but keen to have a poke around.

Manual over 30mb so to large, but here is a link.

Any help with this would get great,

    Dave

Re: Yamaha RX-V2067 in Protection Mode

    Hi Again,

Found another thread which discusses the PS2 PRT fault and it indicates the PS2 PRT monitors the +-5V.
    https://www.hometheatershack.com/thr...-fault.137426/
Further more he indicates that he has fixed the fault by replacing the 5v regulator. I will open it up and see is I can identify the 5v regulator on the power board.

    Cheers

    Dave

      Hi Mate,

Just checking to see how you went with this? I've got a RX-V2065 and struggling to locate any bad caps or faulty green caps as highlighted in other threads. I'm getting a PS2 PRT error intermittently so curious to know how you went.

TEAC AG 980 going protection mode

Hi everyone. I'm new on this things, this is my first amplifier after I start offering repair service almost for free, just for learning purpouse

So I have a amp that is going to protection mode. I saw that if I remove the ribbon cable which sends from main board B+,B- and signal for amplifiers card, is not going to protection mode.

So, from that ribbon cable y disconnect everything but b+ b-, and amp goes again to protection mode. So my guess was something is wrong in the amp board.

I disconnect all transistors and amp is ok.
        After, I connect the...

DAP AUDIO QI-4400 Goes In To Protection Mode - Blown Cap
        by RetroComputingGrotto
I've got a DAP AUDIO QI-4400 Amplifier on my workbench. When you turn it on, it goes in to a protection mode that a lot of these bits of kit seem to have. On opening up the unit I could immediately see a blown cap, so I replaced it and powered it back on. It still went in to protected mode (so there's still something wrong with it) and after about 10 minutes the cap I replaced went bang! Just in case you can't see it, it's the one I've drawn a black cross on so I dont forget which one it is!!

Hello Everyone! I have a Yamaha powered speaker DXR15. The problem was the RED LED Fault indicator is steady on when I power the speaker. I did open the module and I don't see any burnt component. I Downloaded the Schematic but I don't know where to start the diagnostic. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I also attached the schematic here...

Stubborn GIGABYTE B365M AORUS ELITE - main PCIe x16 GPU port working only in x8 width mode
        by DynaxSC
        Hi,

I have this board, where I have exchanged the LGA1151 socket. During testing I discovered, that the large PCIEX16 slot won't by no force work in x16 mode, but keeps to work in x8 mode only.
I tested this with GPU-Z, also with Render Test (but tried also Furmark and Heaven Benchmark - no effect).
Tested on Core i5-9600K as well as on an Pentium G5420 and MSI NVIDIA GTX1070 and 2 other cards, including RTX3060Ti.
Board architecture definitely allows x16 mode, as all 16 PCIe lanes are present between CPU and main GPU slot (nearest to CPU).

Rotel RKB-8100 Amplifier going into protection mode
        by redoxy
Unit goes into protection mode within a minute after turning on.
I get sound for a few second before protection mode.

The unit seems to be made up of "two identical halves", which I think will help during troubleshooting.

I tried finding a technical/service manual online but so far by Googling has returned no results.

I think I narrowed it down to Amp 1 in the first picture (pardon my ignorance if that is not an Amp). There are some burnt Chip resistors (shown in picture 2 right image). The big one (R49) is easy to tell from Amp 2 but...
