Heating up the DSP chip is only for diagnostic purposes, the bond inside the chip is already broken, you can shift the metal around by thermal expansion and it will work for a couple of weeks if you're lucky.

    Hi

Had the same problem with my RX-A2010 and have now solved it.

Checked the possibility to order a new Digital 2 P.C.B. and they are still available for around €100.

I thought I'll first will try to bake the PCB in the oven before I order a replacement.

    *UPDATE*

After long wait, I have finally received the new DSP BGA chip.

Upon replacement the unit behaves exactly the same way.

It's time to let it go, no point in wasting any more time and money over this rabbit hole.

Thanks to everyone for participating in this diagnosis.

You need to scavenge ebay and sites that sell scrapped equipment parts like TV boards and such.

I'm currently waiting for delivery of the DSP BGA IC, it's on the way.

I am a glad for this info (chip set). My "golden ears" aren't so golden.... :-) I haven't owned a yamaha before this one but it sounds ok in the HT environment that I use it in with some old jbl "sovereign" speakers along with energy surrounds. I find that the sound environment is better than the denon (4308) but that might be because I haven't spent as much time with the denon in that setup. I was using an onkyo amp as a "switcher" because it could switch a 5 speaker system from one "zone" to another (ie. A / B switching). I could see that the unit makes a good "pre" and that your choice of amp thereafter would be "limitless".

Our units ( I also have a1010 ) use D70YE101BRFP266 dsp IC which is not in the list of the failed chips . Also it is not BGA
Still it is always a good idea to tape heatsinks on the bga ICs.
By the way, are you happy with the audio quality of the power amp?
I personally do not like how it sounds and just use the unit as a preamp. For power amp I have a cambridge audio avr.

Last test left a sour taste, wasn't done properly so I dug out the proper short ground spring probe ends and redid the noise tests. Main DSP rail has average of 10mVp-p of noise. The input rails to the board have no more than 12mVp-p either. Looks like this is not my problem. I think this chip is just dead.

    1,3V DSP supply

    3,3V board input rail

    1,8V board input rail

You can get D81YK113DZKB400 ( revision D ) from alibaba or you can try getting the whole PCB from yamaha. Good thing the dts is mounted on its own board and not on the main board ( like onkyos ) - you might be able to get a new one for a "normal" price.

What a fail with those chips, this is unbelievable. I don't think it's gonna be possible to buy a replacement since Texas only sells them to some "certified" manufacturers.

Rails tested with a scope, ripple of 20 mV is present but the test method is not ideal, most of the noise is injected by ground clip here. Looks acceptable.

Test the rails for ripples with a scope.
Unfortunately, most likely the dts chip is a goner. If I remember correctly, it is possible to install a new chip without having to program it in advance.
Damn, I thought Yamaha were not using that faulty dts... ONKYO used to have "extended" warranty due to that problem, but I haven't heard other makers to do that... still, if you have all the documentation ( original invoice and receipt I guess ) you can try to ask for a free repair due to the acknowledged faulty texas instruments chips.

Like I wrote in previous post, no. Version does not show at all, and the checksum comes up after very long time (several minutes, 5-10 or so) then comes up with checksum number of "8A7BC1FA" each time, after power down and board unplug as well.

+3.3D and +1.8D come from DIGITAL1 ( (which should be fine if the rest of the components pass the tests ) and are converted by q5001 and IC523 to +3.3DSP2 and +1.2DSP2 so you might have failed IC or capacitor(s).

Once you know that the IC has good power supply you can do the "light bulb"/"heating" bga test - basically heat the IC to check if it fails because of failed solder balls.
Board looks to have a firm and stable connector, undamaged. Checked power. Input to board DIGITAL2 has 2 rails, one measuring 1,84V and the other one 3,24V. Both voltages completely stable. Power rails to the DSP2 chip itself measure stable 1,26V and 3,24V.

BGA failure mode is usually the substrate connectors to the flip chip itself inside. Performed a reflow, no change in the way the unit behaves.

Here is the list you have in mind - https://cdn.badcaps-static.com/pdfs/...12b2bc512f.pdf

a family of faulty DTS ( dsp ) ICs

The ops yamaha uses d81yk113bzkb which indeed is affected.

DSP2 seems to be IC 521 which is located on board "DIGITAL2"
From page 20 this "digital2" should be the small pcb board on the top of the main board.. so go with the standard things - remove the board and check the connectors/(flex) cables and other visual damage.

p.s. oops, the op has answered while I was writing... anyway, I'll leave this here for future readers.

    Yamaha RX V675 sound issues
    by jjne
I have an old Yamaha RX V675 receiver which is starting to develop issues with the sound, although it doesn't quite match up with what folk normally report with these.

From cold, the sound cuts in and out. When this happens the amp is losing sync with the optical input (speaker graphic disappears from the front panel). But this is not resolved by putting the unit into pure direct mode. After a couple of minutes this resolves, although there are occasional clicks from the speakers after that.

At first I thought it was either a speaker relay or the DSP, but I don't think...

    YAMAHA CLP-550 without of sound
    by AlexVG
    Hi.
I have an old YAMAHA CLP-550 without sound. (Some times I can get some kind of noise or distorted sound)
I have replaced all green marked elements, but it gave me nothing.
The IC12 chip LC9116A-105 (red marked) remains under suspicion yet.

But it is custom YAMAHA's chip, and I can't find any information about it.
Maybe somebody came across with the same issue?
Any information will be very useful. I will be very appreciated.
    Thank you....

what i went through dealing with my mobo with dead onboard sound!
    by ChaosLegionnaire
so i took out one of my spare gigabyte ep35-ds3r mobos from storage for use to do some cpu, ram and video card testing of stuff i bought from ebay and got for free from momaka. he bought 50 e8400 cpus for cheap from ebay some years ago and i decided to help him relieve him of some of his supply since he had waaaay too many!! what did we say about hoarding too much stuff and depriving others of them?! *cough* socialism *cough* lol!

i had to blow some dust off the board and heatsinks with the datavac as i didnt clean it up before putting it in storage. after finishing...

Yamaha MOX8 boot freeze and distorted sound
    by maleksa
My Yamaha MOX8 synthesizer recently developed two issues.

Firstly, after booting up, it operates as normal. However, after about 5 minutes, the sound starts to get distorted (broken up screeching sound) almost like putting it through a guitar distortion pedal. After a while, the distorted sounds will go away for a while and comes back. At times, the synthesizer will also freeze I need to power off and on again.

Secondly, when powering off and on again, there will be times where the synthesizer will freeze during the boot sequence (freezes at the MOX8 Opening Screen),...

Yamaha RX-A1030 working, no sound output
    by Rupsenkind
Hi all, I've started this new thread in order to avoid further polution of thread "Yamaha RX-A3010 working, no sound output"
    Just to recap:

No sound through Audio and AV analogue inputs, only sound when 2ch stereo or pure direct is activated (so no sound when I e.g. choose 7ch of Hall in Munich etc.). Hoever when I connect HDMI I've sound in all options (movie, music, eyc.) First suspicion was the DSP chip/PCB so I bought a scrap 1030 with a good functioning PCB (in this one a driver stage was defective (PRT DC: 67), after I swapped the PCB I've performed a factory...
