    InterM MA-930 One channel faulty

    Hi guys
    I have this InterM MA-930 here. Schematics attached.

    The original problem was one of the C3856 and one of the A1492 output transistors were short circuit

    Having replaced them, I still had a fault where one bank of output transistors (the A1492 side) were being turned hard on at power up

    I traced that to Q110 having been replaced by some other repairer with the wrong type device. It was an electrical equivalent but not a physical equivalent (source and drain reversed). I replaced that with the correct J78 and the amplifier then worked so I returned it to the owner

    However, I am not able to test these amplifiers at high power at the workshop (until I get some large load resistors). It worked fine until the owner got the amp up to 0db - no clipping - when it suddenly blew the 10A main fuse

    I got the amp back here with one A1492 short circuit collector emitter (not the one I changed previously) and one C3856 short circuit base collector (the one I had replaced previously)

    At the moment I have the two faulty output devices removed but there is still a problem

    On the good channel I read open circuit Collector Emitter on all output devices

    On the bad channel I read open circuit collector Emitter on the A1492 bank, but I read about 1.5V-1.6V on my diode test range on collector emitter of the C3856 bank (+ve to collector)

    I removed all the low value emitter resistors R140-R145 but it makes no difference.

    I then removed all the remaining C3856 and they all test OK on my Atlas DCA55. Actually it says they are Germanium Power transistors for some reason but otherwise they are all fine.

    I then resoldered all the C3856 and used one volt meter to measure B-E voltage on C3856 while I apply diode test on my other multimeter across C-E

    I get about 0.5V forward bias B-E which explains why the output transistors appear to be 'leaky' Collector Emitter. They are actually being turned on somehow by my test meter on diode mode.

    I then removed Q108 (C4370)and found that the 0.5V forward bias on the C3856 bank has gone away and they are no longer reading leaky C-E

    I tested Q108 on the DCA55 - it is fine

    I then removed Q109 (actually a K215) and tested that on the DCA. It's fine

    I replaced Q108 and Q109. The forward bias comes back again.

    I then removed Q106 (A949) and the forward bias goes away. Q106 test fine on the DCA.

    I then tested all the 1N4148 diodes in this area on my DVM diode test mode, they read OK in circuit.

    I've got as far as I can but I just can't see where this forward base bias is coming from when I test across the output bank C-E

    I'm sure one of you clever guys can figure it out.

    Try replacing the Zener diode D 116 and see what happens.

        old X58 triple channel board... memtest86 memory speed?

        Anyone run memory speed tests with an old X58-based triple channel 1st gen or any other >2 channel board? The one I have is a Gigabyte I think.

        Anyway I had four 4GB DDR3-1333 modules in the 6 memory slots and got around 11GB/sec memory speeds assuming that it went dual channel since it didn't have enough modules for triple channel. Now I stuck in two more 4GB modules, but they are DDR3-1600. I'm still getting 11GB/sec speeds according to memtest86...

        Just wondering, anyone do memory speed analysis on these triple (and higher) channel memory boards? Are there any...

        I have reverse engineered this tester, schematic is attached and is complete except for capacitor values. These testers annoyingly have no model number but they are the ones you find on the first page of just about any website if you type in "18650 4-channel tester". There is also a 2-channel variant and a newer 8-channel variant. They are very cheap (about £15) and can measure voltage, current, internal resistance and capacity. They have a multicolour display for all these statistics. They also have terminal blocks so that if you want to use a breakout board...

        First off I would like to thank this community as it has provided me with great information that has helped me greatly on my repair for this Marantz SR5012 AV receiver. I am creating this new thread as the other 2 that I have created here has had their original question/problem solved and I plan that this is the final thread on my repair. Please note that this is my first time repairing audio amplifiers so I may not be aware of common issues and things to know.

        Lets start at what I have done so far. Random speaker popping on all channels is fixed by replacing the 2 large filter...

        Hi

        I've come across a few emitter-follower/common collector push-pull power amp circuits where NPN / PNP are collector-connected to +ve and -ve respectively, but am working on a repair of a Deltec Precision Audio DPA 50S from circa 1987 where the PNP / NPN power transistors are connected the opposite way (PNP and NPN emitter to +ve and -ve respectively).

        The driving circuitry is therefore a bit more complex than I'm used to seeing and it's giving me a brain-block without any schematic to look at... Does anyone have any information that could be of help please?...

        Marantz 1030: Extreme Bias Voltage and Distortion on Left Channel

        Hey all. I have this Marantz model 1030 amplifier with some problems.

        Problem 1: Left channel has extreme distortion under any kind of load. If you crank the bass control, it distorts to hell and gone.

        Problem 2: When attempting to set the bias voltage for the left channel, it's ENTIRELY too high. The service manual states 7.5mVDC at idle. It won't go below 130mV. The right channel has no distortion and I was able to successfully set it's bias current to 7.5mV.

        I think what's going on here is that something is pulling the bias voltage way up on the...
