Blaupunkt CD30 MP3 vauxhall Radio fault..

Hi, My problem is with a Blaupunkt CD30 MP3 car radio (Vauxhall).
The radio has blown a fuse and I have looked at it and found what looks like a Diode which has blown apart. I have managed to get a photograph of an undamaged component (see attachment) from a similar radio and the part number on it is EVP 73A.
I have been unable to identify this part and would be grateful if any light can be shed on the identity of the component and possible source for it or a compatible replacement..

    Kind Regards, Liam

Does the diode go across the DC input? that is a Vishay logo
    Could be TPSMC36A

is that there for reverse polarity ? fuse should blow first though if properly rated fuse .

Yes as far as I can determine it goes across the DC input.., and it is the Vishay logo.
Thank you for your help,. I will purchase one of those and try it..

Yes Pete the fuse was blown but the lad had stuck another fuse in and tried it but it blew again. The excess damage to the component may have occurred then.

looks like it was likely reverse wired then . thats what happens if the fuse is rated too high and the unit is wired reverse polarity . new diode might get it fixed so long as it was fast enough to react and protected everything else .

Yes when the car was bought the fuse was gone so can only surmise that the wiring must have been tampered with at some stage.. Fingers crossed that no further damage was caused. I think I have found a replacement diode on ebay so will update when I get that..

The diode is there for spike protection and would only blow if the polarity was reversed or the input voltage was higher than 50 volts dc. If the diode that was on the board is shorted, that would have protected the rest of the circuit, if it is blown apart, as in open, it no longer protected anything so there may be more damage.
The radio should work without the diode just to test the radio but be sure of proper polarity.
After looking at the schematic, it does'nt seem to match this version of the radio.

Yes the diode was shorted so I am hopeful that all will be ok.. No the schematic does not seem to match.. Your Vishay document that lists the EVP device marking code and device type, seems to be the correct part. I have ordered a replacement...

                              clock radio / radio lifespan?
                              by shelby5041
                              hi
ive got a modern digital clock radio approx 15yrs old

my question is how long can a clock radio or a simple radio last ss farcas operating hours?

since elec components have limited hour lifecspan i would imagine the radio or clock radio would eventually fail.

the reason i ask is because i have my clock radio on radio function 24/7 for the past 7 years and its still working fine....i leave the radio on ..never turn off past 7years...thats approx 60000 hours

it uses very little power just a few watts i would imagine that may have something...

                              Dear all,

I have this old radio clock by Sony from the early 80s, I guess. The clock display works, but is dim, the function board appears to be OK - but the radio unit shows no signs of life. It doesn't produce a single noise, crack or anything from either FM or AM band. It's like it doesn't even power up.
i opened the radio and it is full of some TRACON gray capacitors. They only have their negative strip printed, voltage and capacitace markings - no series, no temperature marking, nothing else.
My question is, do you know of this brand of capacitors and how bad are...

Hello Guys! I have trouble with my car radio Kenwood KDC 3051G I hope someone more knowledgeable can help me, I tried everything in my power that I stumbled upon online.

My radio is permanently in demo mode, it says Press Volume Knot Cancel Demo and when I press it nothing happens.

                              - Tried to unplug radio and plug it back in into power,

                              - Tried to reset radio by holding reset button key for 5,10,30 seconds while in power and without power, plugging it back in, it wouldn't work.

                              - Tried to hold 3,6 while turning it back on and then pressing 1,2...

                              Hey everyone,

I'm currently working on a mid-70s Sharp Electronic Digital Clock Radio, Model FY-70CH. I found the service manual online, printed it out, and have been studying it for a while. My main reasons for tackling this are: (1) I want to learn electronics and figured I'd start with something I had on hand, and (2) I want to fix its issues. Right now, the radio sounds awful, has about 5V DC at the speaker terminals, and the alarm time setting doesn't work. But I'm not asking how to fix these problems.

Instead, here's what's been bugging me so far:
                              The schematic...
