Kenwood DXN690HD - Random Freezing & Multi-Colored Lines On Display

I have a customer who has brought a DNX690HD car stereo to me to try and troubleshoot/fix for them. Car stereos are not my specialty, but I thought I'd give it a shot.

The customer is complaining of problems with the unit randomly freezing, producing multi-colored lines all over the display, rendering the touchscreen inoperable until the reset button is held in. Sometimes it takes multiple presses of the reset button or pressing and holding the reset button for 10+ seconds before the unit will restart where it will then function normally for as little as 5 minutes or as long as a day or so before it happens again and again.

I began by updating the product's firmware from 1.7.0 to 1.10.0 from Kenwood's support website for this model. Although this added a couple of features to theunit (like iHeartRadio) and the touch seems to be more responsive, it did not correct the problem. The unit still randomly freezes with the multi-colored lines.

I was able to capture a picture of the problem as it was happening. I have attached it to this post.

As you can see, the entire screen is covered in multi-colored lines. After a short period of time, these lines will go away and a normal display will appear, but the touch is completely unresponsive as well as all of the hardware buttons. The only thing you can do is either turn the engine off and back on or press and hold the reset button and even then, it doesn't always immediately fix it and it's always temporary.

Any ideas on where to go from here?

Did you try disconnecting, cleaning and reconnecting all the connectors, behind the screen?

TCL 55S425 few horizontal lines, potential failure on both side of panel/buffer board
      by howardc64
All left and right refers to looking from rear of TV (or looking from front with TV upside down)
      • TV came with vertical bars and no image. Found faulty TVS on left buffer board. Also replaced T-Con (may have damaged the original while hot air removing components, board has slight warp) and have full image but few horizontal lines on the screen. Some of the lines appears to be 2 pixel tall while others are 1 pixel tall.
      • Disconnecting left and right buffer board potentially reveals problems on both sides with different signals (unless this T-Con require jumper like Samsung FB_TRDY1&3) Fault

LCD 31MU97Z displays random lines randomly
      by Vspeed
I have this monitor which had the known issue with the corrupted flash. That is solved, now, after some time it started to cut the image from time to time and just display grayish random vertical lines. After some minutes the image usually comes back, until it does the same again.

I took it apart and the only think that I noticed was ZD1 protection diode on the TCON board reaching 90ºC when it's showing this erratic behavior. I measured the voltage on the fuse right beside it, and is measuring 15.3V (under load). Without the TCON board connected, the connector measures 18.3V....

      Screen Display Vertical Multicolor Lines
      by Stanley1843
Hello, I have a screen in where sometimes when I open it pop-up vertical multicolor lines (I would say the most of them are green). If I tun off and turn on the screen the lines dissapear or if I leave open the screen after approximately five minutes the lines gone. I measured the below voltages on the main PCB and on the T-CON board and the voltages are the same when it doesn’t display the vertical lines and when it displays the vertical lines. Also, I cleaned all the connectors very good with IPA. I moved back and forth the connectors and the COF tabs but the vertical lines didn't displayed...

      Samsung QN50Q60t lines on screen
      by jeyoung12
      Hi all
I have lines on the screen...which is an age old problem that can be remedied by watching Youtube videos and getting out the tape.
My issue (after successfully fixing a different sammy tv with a separate tcon board and isolating the side of the panel...):

This tv has an integrated tcon...so it is a bit more confusing when trying to isolate the clocks.
It has a c ribbon and i have taken each end out to see if that will isolate the lines. instead, it makes it much worse ALL over the tv!

So....i don't know what end of the C ribbon to work with...

      Samsung QE50Q67TAU - horizontal lines
      by Rubenlily
      Hello,

First of all I'm new here. While looking I found this amazing forum and I'm very happy I did. Now for my problem:

I picked up a Samsung UHD QLED QE50Q67TAU from 2021 for $50 knowing it was defective. The seller said it had black lines and that it could get stuck in boot randomly.

I've tried a new power cable, hard reset, opening up and jiggling all cables, pressing everywhere to see if I get a reaction but I've gotten nothing. I've tried the tape method but I've only managed to get the lines worse.

I'm no expert but I've done the tape...
