    Price checks:

STK350-230 < $8 - Buy from reputable distributor. Wary of fakes!
    uPC2581V < $18 - Same " " " "

    MN2488* ** < $6 Sony #: 8-749-010-25
    MP1620* ** < $6 Sony #: 8-749-010-26

    * make sure these are the original Sanken transistors. ASK!
If they continue to fail, you probably will have to go with *real* Sony parts @ $15 a pop.

** replace as a pair per channel, not individually

Ok, finally had time to work on this. Replaced an MN2488 and MP1620 pair. Doesn't seem to have done it. The STK gets hot, and the NECs get hot too after the relay click.

Rather than replacing those, I looked around and found a small PNP transistor that gets hot immediately. It is Q692 and it is on the -B SW along with Q691. I have to pull both of them out of the circuit and test them.

Q691 the 2SC1815 is shorted on, ordering some and we'll see if it does the trick.

Nope, still nothing. Now it goes into protect.

Any update? I'm working on a similar Sony receiver with a similar problem.

OK, looks like the caps close to the upc2581v get cooked by the heat. Three are giving an open reading on the ESR meter (10v, 100u, 85c) and those were almost in direct contact with the backside of the upc2581v.

You might also see the board turning brown under the chips where it has been baked by the heat. How much would it cost Sony for a couple tiny heatsinks or at least some 105c rated caps?

Re: Sony str-k502p Amp quiet channel.

Here is a hint that might help out. When output devices fail (usually they short) many other semis in that circuit can also smoke because everything is direct coupled. So, the other transistors in that channel are the first suspects. Resistors should also be checked in that amplifier channel. But specifically it is good practice to replace the current sensing resistors in the failed channel-the ones that are in the source or emitter leg of the device. These parts will be in the area of .1 ohms, very low resistance. Replace them, because they usually increase in value. They might not be open or burned, but the value goes up, causing the circuit to go into current limiting. That's it.
                  Is it plugged in?

Sony STR-AV19 Left Channel weak when quiet?
                    by macjedimatt
I have a Sony STR-AV19 that works great when the music is on the loud side. But if things get quiet, I start to loose the left channel. It gets quiet and a little fuzzy sounding. It does the same thing no matter what the physical position of the volume knob is. It also seems to get worse if I have it running for a couple hours. I've had it taken apart and I don't see any visible damage. The service manual is available here:

Does anyone have any ideas where I should start looking? The volume knob sounds clean, so I don't think it's the potentiometer.

                    -Thanks

old X58 triple channel board... memtest86 memory speed?
                    by eccerr0r
Anyone run memory speed tests with an old X58-based triple channel 1st gen or any other >2 channel board? The one I have is a Gigabyte I think.

Anyway I had four 4GB DDR3-1333 modules in the 6 memory slots and got around 11GB/sec memory speeds assuming that it went dual channel since it didn't have enough modules for triple channel. Now I stuck in two more 4GB modules, but they are DDR3-1600. I'm still getting 11GB/sec speeds according to memtest86...

Just wondering, anyone do memory speed analysis on these triple (and higher) channel memory boards? Are there any...

Reverse engineering of 18650 4-channel tester
                    by spleenharvester
                    Hi friends

I have reverse engineered this tester, schematic is attached and is complete except for capacitor values. These testers annoyingly have no model number but they are the ones you find on the first page of just about any website if you type in "18650 4-channel tester". There is also a 2-channel variant and a newer 8-channel variant. They are very cheap (about £15) and can measure voltage, current, internal resistance and capacity. They have a multicolour display for all these statistics. They also have terminal blocks so that if you want to use a breakout board...

Help on car amplifier only one channel works
                    by mikey5791
                    Hi all forum members,
Fyi, i have been working on this old model PCT-4082 (4 channel car amplifier). The owner said only one channel is working.
My initial finding is this amp originally use Toshiba 2SA1943 and 2SC5200 transistor for its output but after opening the top casing i found it used Toshiba A1941 (pnp)and C5198(npn). I desoldered all the 4 pairs transistors and found 1 piece A1941 open(tested "OL" on all legs) and replaced the 1st pair with 2SA1943 and 2SC5200, thats why you can see in the picture it is the bigger size transistor. The other A1941 and C5198 all...
