Mixed mode CDs on audio players

This is a mini-rant about how Mixed Mode CDs no longer play properly on modern audio equipment, due to the MP3-CD compatibility many of them have. I have many CDs that were made in mixed-mode format, mainly from video games in the 1990s and I used to like listening to the audio tracks on my CD player.

The problem is, when a modern CD player sees the data track, it assumes the disc is an MP3 CD and starts looking through to find MP3s to play. My main hi-fi is like this - searches the data track for a few seconds, and then stops dead with a 'no file' message. It completely ignores the Redbook audio tracks!

A Sony boombox has a slightly better way of handling it. It still takes about a minute to search through the data track for MP3s, but then gives up and plays the Redbook audio tracks.

What do you guys think of how modern CD players handle mixed-mode discs?
Incidentally, I have not seen a CD player since the early 1990s that does not either skip or at least mute the data track on a mixed-mode CD. Supposedly playing the data as audio can cause damage to your speakers or headphones!

Sometimes you need to break shit to fix it.... Thats why my lawnmower doesn't have a deadman switch or engine brake anymore

I have no problems of that sort yet. I use an old Musical Fidelity x-ray and it playes all my cd's. I do have mixed cd's with nonsence on them, but no problems.

Yes, this. That's why you should use old but reliable transport with a modern DAC of your choice.

So far I've been a silent reader, but now I need your help

I bought a laptop. The seller said the bios was locked. I was looking for a way to remove this ban.
I then got the CH341A and pulled the corresponding files from here https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...evices-and-ele...
The laptop was brought in with a BIOS problem and a password. After reading the dump, the information was damaged. I ask for help in the BIOS with a clean ME region. Motherboard 213035-1. Serial number: PW+04e998, Type number: 21c3-0016ge

Hi all you clever electronmic gooroos!

I was wondering if you could help me with the below issues Im having on a Sansui Integrated amplifier. I bought this unit as a project to repair as Im playing around with basic electromics. The unit has a faulty volume control pot. The service maual refers to a 150K Logarithmic pot (A) tapered stereo. Im struggling to find this value. Seem to be a jump from 100K to 250K. Im now trying a 250K pot. Panasonic CF-20 Track pad issues
          by HKS00
          Hello Everyone,

My name is Haris and, I am new to the forum. I would appreciate any help I can get.

Little back story on me and the issues that we are dealing with...
I work on a fleet that uses Panasonic CF-20s we have about 65 of them. Up until the beginning of the year they all had warranty so all the repairs were covered. Fast-forward to now and all of the units are out of warranty and it can't be extended past this point. We don't have the budget this year to replace them, so we will be stuck trying to fix any issues that may come up.

          by Robin21
          Hello,

I've bought this MB with only bent CPU pins. Unfortunately, it isn't the only problem. On the back of the motherboard are scratches, and some tracks are broken. I'm not sure how to connect them. Does anyone have this motherboard and can make hi-res photo of this area for me? Thanks in advance.
