Thanks for the detailed NPCX797HA1BX flashing guide.
In the meantime I bought a second motherboard with a defective CPU. I removed all three EEPROMs and the NPCX797HA1BX chip from it. With this full set of chips installed, the laptop started up normally. After the first boot it automatically performed a BIOS update (2 or 3 times), and then the laptop refused to start again, showing the same symptoms as before.
I reflashed the chips once more and the laptop booted again with the updated BIOS. This time, after a few restarts, Windows loaded, and it looks like the laptop is working now....Leave a comment:

Hi taurtnt,
I've bought this card with defective memory (or memory controller) and it's coming my direction. I should get it next week. I hope VBIOS will be untouched. I'll make dump and post it.

I've posted both - 16MB and 32MB dumps including 'all the rest' here
I’m planning to dump the third chip as well — the smallest one. I downloaded the Thunderbolt firmware from the HP support page, so I’ve got the binaries for comparison.
I've used a few different AI to analyze begging of what I believe is EC....Leave a comment:

HP EliteBook 1030 G3 - 16MB and 32MB dumps
Both dumps come from the DA0Y0PMBAF0 REV:F motherboard with a shorted NPC797 EC that I’m currently repairing in this topic. They haven’t been tested in a working laptop.
S/N: 5CD8468N9C - I haven’t changed it. If you’re planning to use them, consider changing this serial to your own. I did change the Windows key, though. It's XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX in the file.
The ME region starts at offset 0x1000. Version 11.8.97.4739 (‘Unconfigured’) extracted from the BIOS downloaded from the HP support page is also attached — Q90_013200.bin.
I’m also including... -
What’s even more interesting, and makes me believe this could actually work, are the changes in the EC firmware after I program the chip with the extracted firmware and power it on for the first time. The differences keep changing: when I programmed the chip a second time, tried to power it on, and then read it again, the contents were different from the first read. The differences appear in the middle of the chip, starting at address 0x1000.

Update on the repair
It's a journey with this laptop. I've continued the repair by searching for another schematic/boardview that uses the same or at least a similar NUVOTON chip. I eventually found the CATALONIA 6050A3022401, which uses the NUVOTON NPCX797HA1BX. From what I’ve gathered, the difference between A1 and A0 is the flash size: A1 is 256KB, A0 is 128KB — something that later turned out to be correct.
Using that schematic and boardview, I identified the signals I would need: JEN, SWCLK, SWI0, TDI, TDO. It turned out later that only the first three are actually...Leave a comment:

Hi,
Attached files are not for the DA0Y0PMBAF0 REV F
I'm guessing they are for HP SPECTRE X360 13-4000, motherboard 801505-501...Leave a comment:

HP EliteBook 1030 G3 - NUVOTON NPCX797HA0BX
Hello,
I had to replace the NUVOTON chip in this laptop. It was shorted, showing 0 ohms on the 2R2 resistor. After replacing it, I now measure 3.4 V on the same resistor, so the new chip seems fine. However, the laptop still does not work. When I connect a USB‑C power adapter, it draws almost no power and the LED blinks white/orange.
There are no other shorts on the board, so this chip probably needs to be programmed. I was hoping it would program itself automatically, but that did not happen. The problem is that I have not found any information on how to program this chip... -
Hi,
I came back to this repair for a second approach. My switch is starting up, so I connected my TTL‑to‑USB adapter and this is what appeared in the terminal. It does boot, so I’m assuming the firmware is fine. Here’s what’s failing: “Board Net Initialization Failed”.
Below is the beginning of the terminal output, with the last line shown at the end:

I had to take a break from this repair. After looking at it again, I noticed liquid damage around the LAN connections. I removed the first LAN section (12 ports) and cleaned the motherboard, but the LEDs on the remaining LAN ports still don’t light up at all.
All power supply voltages are within spec. I’ll hunt for another one to have something for comparison.Leave a comment:

It turned out that the LPDDR5X memory soldered onto the motherboard was defective. I replaced all four chips, and now everything is working fine again with the original BIOS.
Thanks to everyone for your effort and support!...Leave a comment:

SAMSUNG Galaxy Book3 Ultra NP960XFH bad RAM
Hi,
I've tested the memory using MemTest, and it's showing errors.
There are four K3KL9L90CM-MGCT chips installed. According to the datasheet, these are LPDDR5X 64Gb modules. However, MemTest is identifying them as LPDDR5 ECC. I don't have much experience with faulty ECC memory, but I know that ECC configurations typically include an additional chip, at least in the server setups I've seen.
I'm not yet sure whether MemTest is correctly detecting ECC in this case. What I do know is that the latest version of MemTest supports DDR2 / DDR3 / (LP)DDR4 / (LP)DDR5(x)... -
Hi,
Thank you, Shiyab,
I’ve tested both BIOS files you provided:- With the first one, the laptop booted to the 'SAMSUNG' logo and then powered off - same behavior as with the original BIOS.
- With the second file, the screen remained black after powering on, and the laptop shut down after a while.
After the first startup using your 32MB_1.ROM, I read the BIOS chip to check for any changes, and indeed, there were some. I’ve attached the resulting BIOS dump in case anyone wants to compare and see exactly what was modified.
In the end, I reprogrammed...Leave a comment:

SAMSUNG Galaxy Book3 Ultra NP960XFH
Hallo,
I'm looking for a BIOS file for the Samsung Galaxy Book3 Ultra. Laptop is showing 'SAMSUNG' logo and then powers off.
Model: NP960XFH-XA3NL
Serial: 67GQ9FFW800042T
M/B Partnumber: BA92-24579B
M/B Modelnumber: VENUS3_16_EXT
PlatformID: ALQ
I followed the guide titled "ID Samsung BIOS from dump and download the official update" and downloaded the file ITEM_20240619_22402_WIN_P07ALQ.exe. After extracting it, I got a .bin file, but it's slightly smaller than my original BIOS dump, so I can't use it directly.... -
Hi,
The resistance on those two coils is quite high. It starts at around 20kΩ when I begin the measurement and gradually increases to 140kΩ, after which the resistance continues to rise very slowly.
Looking at the datasheet for the AOZ1212, on page 7 under Output Voltage Programming, the formula is:
V = 0.8 × (1 + R1/R2)
I removed both resistors from each buck regulator and measured them. The readings are consistent across both:
R1 = 140kΩ and R2 = 20kΩ
So:
0.8 × (1 + 140/20) = 6.4V — which is what I have measured. ...Leave a comment:
