Re: pioneer vsx 2021 no sound
This is why links are n.f.g. they disappear. Have you tried changing the file name to a higher number, like avr_12_0243 ?
The other option might be to change revision and release numbers in the file itselfLast edited by R_J; 01-29-2023, 03:29 PM.Leave a comment:

Re: pioneer vsx 2021 no sound
Pioneer has taken down there links to the firmware, I suspect the online update server has also been shut down.
The firmware you installed is for Europe so that is likely why the FM is not working.
I found this as the original link that is not working
But found what should be the file.
Try it at your own risk.
This is the reason I wanted I asked a copy of @AndyB1712 's file and what he says in his post #36 link below. Wherein I think he tweaked the firmware and this fools the receiver into thinking this is a new update.
https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpo...0&postcount=36
He provided a dropbox link, but that link now is dead. So I'm hoping he uploads it again.Leave a comment:

Re: pioneer vsx 2021 no sound
Here's a Dropbox link to the file I modified and used to update my receiver.
You can use this over and over because the receiver thinks it's getting a new update but it just reloads the same version.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/7efo8tqpzi...pdate.zip?dl=0
I have a VSX-52 with the no sound issue, I flashed the EEPROM with the bin you have provided in post #29, and it fixed the no sound issue.
Only thing is that the FM doesn't work or there is no sound and the "tuned" display stays lit all the time. Even if it's not tuned to a any FM frequency station.
If I force it to tune to a known FM station in my locality no sound comes out from it.
I'm just wondering if this is because of the EEPROM flash or just a faulty FM module.
Also, I have fully updated through USB update to the latest version. It won't update through net. It just keeps on saying accessing then nothing happens., but USB update works fine.
I tried updating again, now it says " Update not needed" or something.
I was wondering if I could get a copy of the EEPROM that you provided to trick the receiver into updating again and again. Just wanted to try it.
Thank you.Last edited by nodols; 01-28-2023, 11:40 PM.Leave a comment:

Re: pioneer vsx 2021 no sound
I've not worked on the VSX-1021 but if it uses the same DSP chip it may be possible to patch your firmware with part of the LX55 one. I found that the area that gets erased is 0h to 10,000h. If this is blank, cut and paste that area from my file into yours. It should get it running and then you can do a full update from USB.
If the DSP is the BGA variant it should be warm to touch after a few minutes running. If it's cold then it has probably failed. Reflowing it sometimes works but reballing or replacing is better.
The other thing to check is the firmware version in the system menu. If it shows *** in part of it, the firmware is corrupt or the DSP has failed... or both.
You don't happen to have a DSP FW dump from a working VSX-922 do you? I'm fixing my DSP IC (UE22 error), and also will need to reflash my eprom.
Thanks heaps!

Re: pioneer vsx 2021 no sound
I have the same problem, full controls but no audio and no clock signals on VSX-1021-K. Reflowed the DSP with no avail. Unable to find the firmware for the VSX-1021-K. So I am tempted to try Andy's VSX-2021 firmware. Very little to loose, any thoughts?Leave a comment:

Re: pioneer vsx 2021 no sound
As far as I'm aware, the D830 is the same chip as the D810 but it has network and USB functions built in. I don't however know if it can be used in place of the D810 without checking a schematic for a receiver that uses each device to be sure the connections are the same.
The problem with these Chinese supplied chips is you don't know how many hours they've logged before being salvaged and reballed. The extra heat cycles involved in removing, reballing and refitting can't help longevity either.
The Onkyo TX-NR636 is the model to look for (or it's HDMI board) in a faulty condition because it has both a D830 D and D810 D on it. If you can get the amp to power up, you can at least check the hours usage before deciding whether to use it for parts or repair it and sell on.
The power amp on the 636 seems quite fragile compared to similar older models so it can be picked up fairly cheap when it goes up in smoke. Only trouble is, it's still fairly current with Dolby Atmos and HDMI 2.0 etc so can be sold for more than an old Pioneer like the VSX-2021 or VSX-LX55Leave a comment:

Re: pioneer vsx 2021 no sound
The unit I just fixed had 26k hours on it at time of failure, if the new one goes half that I'll be happy.
Can the 830s be used in place of an 810? Reason I ask is I accidentally ordered an 830 for this project and wondered if it would work. Still waiting for it to show up. The 810 came right away so I used it.Last edited by Decim8; 05-05-2022, 07:12 AM.Leave a comment:

Re: pioneer vsx 2021 no sound
I assume that was a Chinese supplier since they seem to be the only ones selling these now?
Most claim to be selling 100% brand new, blah blah blah for both B and D versions but these parts are subject to Dolby licencing and only available new to OE manufacturers, so it's unlikely to be true.
The D version is the upgraded part so should be more reliable. I've seen B chips last as long as 30k hours though and start working again after a light reflow with some liquid flux.
I bought a faulty VSX-53 last year and converted it to UK voltage with an old Onkyo 808 transformer. I replaced the B DSP twice with Aliexpress (fake) D chips but neither worked. In the end I reballed the old B chip and put it back. It's still working 6 months later!
I know the D830 chip in Onkyos runs a lot hotter than the D810 in Pioneer units but the D810 failures seem more down to the lead free solder balls than the chip itself. I always use leaded solder balls on any replacements.Leave a comment:

Re: pioneer vsx 2021 no sound
That's good news... glad to hear it worked for you too.
I am curious... where did you source your replacement DSP chip? All the ones I've bought from Aliexpress have clearly been fakes or simply didn't work when fitted. The eBay ones I have bought have had about a 50% success rate but were obviously not new as claimed and I'm not sure if they were reballed 'D' variants or just remarked 'B' variants.
The only reliable source seems to be salvaged parts from later model Onkyo receivers but these tend to be worth more than the Pioneer that needs the chip.Leave a comment:

My firmware is at the latest and I cannot reload the file. I would be interested in reloading the firmware. I would be interested in the mod file to allow reloading firmware.Leave a comment:

Re: pioneer vsx 2021 no sound
I'm pleased to hear this file helped with your repair. This is exactly how my first attempt went until I loaded the file from a working unit.
After replacing the DSP you may find Apple Air Play no longer works. This can be fixed with a full firmware update via USB. If you have the latest firmware already loaded, then this is a problem. There is a way round it though by editing the update file to fool the receiver into reloading the same version. Let me know if you need to do this and I'll assist or Dropbox a copy of the modified file.Leave a comment:

Re: pioneer vsx 2021 no sound
I have a Pioneer VSX-52 was doing UE22 for a while but still worked. It slowly got worse until it stopped working. An attempt to update firmware with USB file it stopped stalleed at 20% every time. Displayed *** where the DSP firmware should be. I replaced the TI DSP chip but unit still had no sound and firmware still showed ***. After using the ic 9004 zip file to reload flash into the 8 pin SOIC system is back to working now.
Thank you so much for posting the file it was the last piece of the puzzle since I didn't have a working SPI chip to pull data from.Leave a comment:

Re: pioneer vsx 2021 no sound
The corrupted flash memory occurs when the DSP chip fails or develops bad solder contacts while the unit is in operation or if a firmware update is attempted once UE22 has been displayed.
It sounds to me that you still have a problem with the main DSP, IC9002. I would put some liquid flux under it and reflow it. I've done this by preheating the board underside using a mobile phone heater and then using a temperature controlled heat gun from above for 50 to 60 seconds.
You may also need to perform a full firmware update after you reload the file I provided into IC9004, especially if a previous firmware update attempt had failed. The file I uploaded was tested in both my VSX-LX55 and VSX-2021 and both have been working well for several months now.
If reheating IC9002 doesn't get it working, you will need to replace it and preferably with the later 'D' variant chip; D810K013DZKB4. I've bought these from e-best_trade on eBay and they aren't sanded down/remarked 'B' variants as some are selling. Tacky flux is easier to use than liquid flux for hand fitting a new BGA.
#EDIT: what does the firmware version show now? If it still has * * * in the DSP part, then there is still a problem with IC9002.Last edited by andyb1712; 06-04-2021, 11:09 AM.Leave a comment:

Re: pioneer vsx 2021 no sound
## Attached - DSP firmware dump from Pioneer VSX-LX55 ##
Tested and working in both VSX-LX55 and VSX-2021.
Circuit location is: IC9004, device is: MX25L1606E.
Version is 119 from Pioneer firmware AVR_1_204087119093
I loaded this into my VSX-2021 IC9004 although the rest of the receiver was still running an older firmware version. It then started up and ran fine. I was able to perform a full update via USB to the rest of latest version detailed above.Leave a comment:

by eccerr0rAnyone run memory speed tests with an old X58-based triple channel 1st gen or any other >2 channel board? The one I have is a Gigabyte I think.
Anyway I had four 4GB DDR3-1333 modules in the 6 memory slots and got around 11GB/sec memory speeds assuming that it went dual channel since it didn't have enough modules for triple channel. Now I stuck in two more 4GB modules, but they are DDR3-1600. I'm still getting 11GB/sec speeds according to memtest86...
Just wondering, anyone do memory speed analysis on these triple (and higher) channel memory boards? Are there any...-

by Jaxxon0121Hi all, im new here and a complete novice with electronic repair so please bear with me. The problem i have is with my Pioneer PDP 436 SXE TV 43' plasma tv. Its recently started making a strange clicking/popping/electrical sound that is very loud and annoying. The tv works fine other than that. The sound doesnt happen straight away. After around 10 minuets of use, usually when the screen turns black on a tv program or if i exit a youtube video and the scrren goes black for a split second, that is when the sound begins and then doesnt stop at all until the tv is unplugged. The sound is coming from...

by LEECH666Good day ladies and gentleman!
I am currently trying to repair a Grundig Vision 9 37 9880 T USB LCD TV for a friend that has a weird audio problem. Basically everything works fine except for the heavily distorted sound when the Subwoofer module is connected and there is a buzzing sound coming from the PSU PCB.
This seems to be a rather rare TV so there is not much prior on topic help to be found however a service manual is available at the usual sources (Electro Tanya i.e.).
I think the PSU buzzing comes from one of the coils near the bridge rectifier but... -
Hi friends
I have reverse engineered this tester, schematic is attached and is complete except for capacitor values. These testers annoyingly have no model number but they are the ones you find on the first page of just about any website if you type in "18650 4-channel tester". There is also a 2-channel variant and a newer 8-channel variant. They are very cheap (about £15) and can measure voltage, current, internal resistance and capacity. They have a multicolour display for all these statistics. They also have terminal blocks so that if you want to use a breakout board... -
