    RCA SCT-560 Both Decks Jammed

Hi all. A month or 2 go, I got an old 1999 RCA SCT-560 dual-deck cassette tape player. It worked perfectly for a little while. I stopped playback, did something, then came back to it, attempted to restart playback, and found that one deck was jammed, playback and rewind. Tried the other deck, same exact thing. I somehow got deck 2 working on reverse playback only, but that's it. I removed the cover today, and noticed that the one of the belt wheels was turning only so far in both directions and then stopping on deck 1. When it stopped, it would put a serious load on the belt motor.

Can anyone please give me some advice about how to fix this? I'd like this deck working soon. Not SUPER URGENTLY, but sometime in the reasonable future. Thank you!

Don't buy those $10 PSU "specials". They fail, and they have taken whole computers with them.

I bought a vcr around 2000. Kept it in a closet. Probably played maybe 5 tapes with it I suppose. Ten years later I hooked it up and played a tape. Worked great until I tried to eject that tape. When I opened it up I found white pieces of plastic in the bottom. That type of plastic self destructs even when sitting in a controlled atmosphere and isn't used.

Did you find any in yours?

I usually activate the mode switch manually (what is pulled by the big coil) and then turn the pulley manually, just to see how it cycles between play, rew, etc.
