    onkyo ht-r590

ok I have a ht-r590 and a ht-r990 both have the same problem no audio. the radio will not work, or the headphones. the video works. all the voltages check good. does the hdmi board control all the audio for the entire receiver? I cant find anything wrong. the schematics are already posted in my ht-r990 post just a few threads down ,the schematics are the same for both receivers.

    thank you kenny

      Re: onkyo ht-r590 hdmi board

ok I found out that the hdmi board on the ht-r590 does control all the sound on the unit. if I heat the dts chip the sound comes back to life for a few minutes. I am going to try to resolder the chip to see if that will work.

        Re: onkyo ht-r590

I heard the problem was the ic itself, something akin to the nVidia fiasco from several years ago. But as you know sometimes the truth is hard to come by. Keep us posted on the reflow.

Sometimes replacing the SMD capacitors ("top hats") AND re flow will work....for a while.

Running out of Ideas, hoping someone smart can provide some for my ONKYO TX-SR353 Receiver
                by CDNBrewer
                Hello Everyone,

I have an Onkyo TX-SR353 Audio/Video Receiver (5.1 ch with HDMI) that I am having a really hard time diagnosing and I'm about to throw this in the junk and go buy a new unit that is on sale until the 7th.

                Symptoms:
                • Intermittent (part of the reason why i'm having a hard time isolating problem), sometimes will work for 10+h at a time without issue
                • Original symptom was wife reported loud banging noise (like someone was banging on the wall with their fists) from the LEFT SURROUND speaker and then the unit shut off.
                • I swapped the Left and Right surround
                ...

Onkyo HT-R390 no sound output, video output ok
                by FrancescoV
                Good morning everyone,
I'm trying to repair an onkyo ht-r390 that has no sound output, despite the volume being at maximum, the rest seems to work; the video output signal (coming from an hdmi input) is present, but the audio is absent. Similar situation if I send an audio signal from any input I have no output.

The firmware reported is the following:
                M:1.00/11107BLP
                D:?.??/????????
                O:1.00/11107AL

The DSP firmware given the question marks seems corrupt.

On the BCHDM-0678 - 25140678 - QPWBCHDM0678A0 board the chip that usually seems...

Onkyo-593 No power and now clicking sound
                by Sisko
                Hi all!!

Ok just got a Onkyo SKW-593 sub woofer that has no power person told me that it smoked and that his GF let the volume full when she powered off the amp and when he came to turn it on the sub played but then suddenly smoke was coming out, didn't say from where. So opened it up and saw a resistor made of metal (pic) but can't see any writing on metal par so what ever was written on it was burnt. So I'm kinda stuck here with this. I did ask for a repair or schematics in the other group section and waiting for this but I hope someone here might lend me a hand to try and identify...
