Dead mic channel on NForce card

I have an ASUS motherboard (full of Rubycons, but that's another story) with an on-board NVidia NForce video/graphics card. Recently I noticed that the signal from the microphone was not coming through at all.

I've tried two different microphones, and have confirmed that the microphones themselves aren't faulty (they work on my other PC). On this sound card, the microphone input is not amplified and passed through to the speakers - nor can I record anything from the microphone input.

I've also tried both front and rear microphone sockets, and played around with the Windows mixer settings - still nothing. I've also checked all wires going to the front panel are secure as well.

Windows still acts like the microphone channel is present; it's selectable in the mixer and I can adjust the level - so I doubt it's a problem with the drivers. Could I possibly have knocked a jumper or DIP switch when changing the GPU fan recently?

Since it's onboard, I can't easily take the card out and have a look for obvious faults. Has anyone else had problems like this with NForce cards?
NB: the Line Input channel is still working; both pass-through and record.
You know there's something wrong when you open your PC and it has vented Rubycons...

stick the line in into the mic and try.
if it works then the mic in is not supplying bias for the mic.
might be a jumper for that.

If it is a crystal mic, it needs a small voltage to work. Like KC8 said, there may be a jumper to set the mic type.

Try a dynamic mic and see if that works. You could also try plugging a set of non-amplified speakers or headphones in the mic jack, they will act as a mic and pick up enough sound to tell you if the input is working.

I tried plugging a tape player into the mic socket, and still nothing came through. Tried both front and rear mic sockets; neither worked. I'd assume that if it was working, it would try to amplify the tape player's sound signal and end up distorting - but it's still completely silent.

Perhaps I should try a Live Linux CD to see if it is actually the Windows drivers...

sound card dead after graphics card installation
          by paparazzo79
Hi guys.I own Z690 F Strix board in one of my PCs....everything was working fine with integrated graphics card.I turned off power from it, installed graphics card from another PC, connected all the peripheral cables, optical sound cable of course when everything was switched off. Then I powered on the machine and integrated soundcard is dead. How did this manage to happen and if there is a way to diagnose and replace damaged component?
The new pci-e soundcard costs here 80 euros which is half of money I spent on motherboard.
I still can not believe that I am such a looser and don't know...

          1973 Magnavox. One dead channel.
          by JunkForLess
I am working on repairing a 1970s Magnavox stereo console. The Left channel works perfect, but the right channel is dead at the speaker. This happens in all modes (Tape, Phono, FM Stereo). Now, I do have audio from the right channel via the "Tape Record" output, so this confirms the problem is in the right channel AF and Output amp? I also tested the speaker itself. I attached a schematic of the Right channel: AF and Output.

In addition to a recap, I found that R101 and R107 were both open (see arrows). I replaced R101 and R107, but they both become very hot....

old X58 triple channel board... memtest86 memory speed?
          by eccerr0r
Anyone run memory speed tests with an old X58-based triple channel 1st gen or any other >2 channel board? The one I have is a Gigabyte I think.

Anyway I had four 4GB DDR3-1333 modules in the 6 memory slots and got around 11GB/sec memory speeds assuming that it went dual channel since it didn't have enough modules for triple channel. Now I stuck in two more 4GB modules, but they are DDR3-1600. I'm still getting 11GB/sec speeds according to memtest86...

Just wondering, anyone do memory speed analysis on these triple (and higher) channel memory boards? Are there any...

Power button on Behringer Xenyx 1204USB mixer dead ?
          by Thermaltake
Hi, I got Behringer Xenyx 1204USB mixer, and in the morning mixer was working fine, but when I came home from bike ride I turn it On but nothing happend. Phantom switch is working because red light is On, but other switch no respond.
I brought mixer to my friend today who is electronic expert and he will tell me if it's the button or something on power supply that died. But I am 90% sure that it's power button. My question is, is it possible to put some better quality switches on that mixer than the ones mixer came with, I found them very cheap and low quality.

HP Elitedesk 800 G5 LAN card dead
          by paparazzo79
          Hi guys.
I purchased this mini desktop PC from a guy in uknown condition but noticed that network LAN card is not working.
I changed few LAN cables, neither of the led lights on the LAN ports is blinking.
The card model is recognized in device manager, and no exclamation marks or smth like that.
Is there a way to physically test the LAN card (and how) with multimeter?
I also tried Ubuntu live distro, no luck.
