    Yamaha RX-A1020 full dead

    Hello Everyone,

    Greetings!

It has been very long time that I opened up my garage again because I got something that I could not stop myself and this time I have a Yamaha RX-A1020 super powerful (at least from inside structure 😉 ) AV receiver. When this unit came to me this Saturday it was full of dust and what not but the standby LED blinked when pressed and power relay clicked once but no display. It worked 3 times after normal reset like other Yamaha receivers and then again it had to be unplugged to get his behavior back. I opened everything and cleaned it up and re-assembled it again ( I checked the output transistor and the related section but it seemed to be fine, no shorts ) and it came back to the same state as before. After some more attempts of reset I think I damaged some thing big 😩. Now there is no led blink and nothing.

The power supply where it supplies +5 V and the GND to the digital PCB, is now shorted. I have dismantled the digital board out of the amplifier but it is still the same. I know VCC and GND shorts are too complex to resolve and requires great deal of patience to look into, BUT believing the members of this super forum, I am requesting your assistance in getting moved on.

If anyone could PLEASE guide me, where to being with I would appreciate that. This is the first time that I have opened up this complex looking receiver and I look forward for your help.

    The schematic is here: https://elektrotanya.com/yamaha_rx-a.../download.html

If you need any more details, please let me know. I can provide more inputs as I can.

Thank you so much for reading this post.

    Regards,
    Hemant

How can I be sure that my EC chip is dead?
    by double_DD
    Hi all,

As the title suggests, how can I be sure that my EC chip is really dead?

I've recently gotten into this hobby of laptop repairs, and have successfully brought back to life a couple with some easy fixes, mostly shorted caps.

Now I'm working on HP Probook 455 G8, that had some "devil" run around on 3V line, burning a bunch of stuff. Luckily I have a dead 455G7 (for spare parts) so I managed to fix it (swapped burned parts) to a point that it will charge (both on barrel jack and usb-c), but it doesn't want to turn on. There is a 3V3 on a keyboard...

Help Needed: Yamaha RX-V485 Network Issue After Firmware Update (WN9711 Error)

    Hi everyone,

I'm facing an issue with my Yamaha RX-V485 receiver. During a firmware update, the process failed, and now the USB, Bluetooth, and network functionalities are not working. Occasionally, the receiver displays the error code WN9711.

I came across Yamaha Technical Bulletin No. 0103, which describes a similar issue for models like the RX-V4A, RX-V6A, and RX-A2A. According to the bulletin, the issue can be resolved by shorting soldering points (e.g., J260 for RX-V4A or...

    Finding a dead short component
    by Beton
    Hi guys!
I searched for the term "dead short" in the forum but no specific thread came up however if I'm just blind and couldn't see the thread talking about this please forward me to that direction.
So my problem is I don't know how to find the source of a dead shorted voltage rail. Dead short = ~0 ohm resistance.
I have two VGAs (HD 4850 and HD 4870), both dead shorted to ground on the memory rail. I have the boardview file for the 4870 and the memory rail consists around ~7892346 capacitors...
I have a bench PSU and if I try to inject voltage the voltage...
