old stereo recover as subwoofer amp
I have a pioneer Sx-3400 and 2 10" sub's. I put the subwoofer out on my yahmah to right aux on the pioneer and hooked up the 2 sub's to right out on the pioneer. It worked fine for 10 minutes on vol level 8 of 10 then a fuse popped on the pioneer. Can I fix this problem (fixing the amp is not the problem) or do I have to fork over $180 for a subwoofer amp.

Check impedance of the speakers and also check the amp's manual to see what is the minimum that it will accept.
Some older amps are strictly rated for 6 or 8 Ohms per channel minimum. According to HiFiEngine, this amp is rated for 15W into 8 Ohms. If your 10" subs are rated for 4 Ohms impedance each and you had them hooked in parallel, the total impedance was 2 Ohms. Most older are not rated for an impedance that low. If you had them hooked in series, you might have not had a problem. But who knows. You may have just been pushing the amp too far, as well. Again, you have to check the impedance rating of your subwoofers. Otherwise you'll simply keep blowing amplifiers (and possibly your subwoofers too) if they made to drive those subwoofers. Most speakers have a label on them that states their impedance. Gotta make sure the woofer impedance is the same or higher than the minimum supported by the amplifier. If the subwoofers are 4 Ohms each, go with a car amplifier. Even a cheap one will do okay. You don't really have to spend $180 on a subwoofer amp.Last edited by momaka; 12-29-2013, 04:48 PM.Comment

One per channel will work if they're 8 ohms. But that amp is pretty weak for subwoofers. Putting them in series will definitely work, but they'll be even quieter that way, so it's pretty pointless.A working TV? How boring!Originally posted by PeteS in CAComment

I've got a subwoofer that I've had for nearly 20 years, it did come with a basic remote which I've lost. It's a generic make of subwoofer, I can't see a brand sticker on it. It comes with 2 speakers.
Question recently I've connected it up to my tv which has greatly improved the sound on my tv, however I'd like to be able to mute the subwoofer when ads come on or just mute it when the phone rings etc. I tried using a cheap all in one tv remote on the subwoofer and the volume button would only work to increase volume but not turn it down or mute it

I am currently trying to repair a Grundig Vision 9 37 9880 T USB LCD TV for a friend that has a weird audio problem. Basically everything works fine except for the heavily distorted sound when the Subwoofer module is connected and there is a buzzing sound coming from the PSU PCB.
This seems to be a rather rare TV so there is not much prior on topic help to be found however a service manual is available at the usual sources (Electro Tanya i.e.).
I think the PSU buzzing comes from one of the coils near the bridge rectifier but... -
I get a faint, low hum through my PC speakers, which connect to the subwoofer in a 2.1 speaker system. The hum drives me crazy and makes me stressed. When I turn off the subwoofer, everything is quiet and I start to relax, lol.

I recorded with my phone's mic right next to the speaker, and the mic picked up a lot of speaker noise over top of the hum. But I don't hear that noise in the room, I just hear the lower-pitched hum that's buried beneath all the other... -

I have this 2.1 Klipsch set where the subwoofer emits a constant whine in standby, in addition to a constant rhythmic pulsing/thumping. Only way to make it stop is to cut power.
