    Technics DV-290 disc read

Hi guys I have this technics DVD stack hifi system and it mostly fails to read or play any discs! it spins up the discs ok and it may read on first try and play but mostly not, tried cleaning the lense but no better, thinking laser might be faulty? found a seller on Ebay but thought expensive at £43 for a new laser? you can buy a new player cheaper these days.

Would not normally bother but I like this system, would appreciate any help anyone can offer

    Thanks Ronnie

Here is a link to the new laser

    Re: Technics DV-290 disc read

    Hi
Are you sure the motor is spinning the disc up to speed every time?

Have you cleaned and lubricated the guide rails and cogs to ensure the laser module can freely move?

I take it an error comes up to say 'read error' as opposed to 'no disc'.

The laser is most likely the fault and a pot can sometimes be located to increase power however this can burn out the laser quicker but if its already shot theres really no loss in trying the mod.

      Re: Technics DV-290 disc read

Thanks for the reply, no error is displayed it just seems to sit at zero on the display if it reads the disc, disc does spin up not sure if correct speed, sled seems to be clean and free, and optical lense does flash red and goes up down

I tried to strip down for a better look and took the drawer out but having trouble getting it back in sync! got it once where it worked properly but it went out of sunc again, another problem I created!

      thanks Ronnie

PS5 Disc Not Supported/ Disc Not Recognized Board Num: EDM-020
          by Junior††

          Good Afternoon fellas,

          Issue:
Disc is showing as not supported when a disc is put in.

Here's what I've done, you can skip this if you just wanna know the question:
          - replaced with a disc drive from a donor ps5 (honestly questionable if this is known to work)
          - reflowed the disc drive connector
-reflowed the chip in question (shown on image)
          - I will say this console was very dusty so it's conceivable that it got so hot that it made the chip joints cold and potentially other things on the board

          Question:
          I...

Technics SL-PG420A.CDM4/19 whining sound with CD-R
          by Xenon-Codex
It works but a loud whine appears with CD-R discs, but only in the middle of the disc, beginning and the end are silent. Silver cd's do not whine.
It's still present with a different clamp. The player is Technics SL-PG420A. Blue capacitor in the laser circuit is replaced already.

Onkyo DX-V500 Laser Disc Player - weird SMPS fault
          by dkneyle
This relic from a technology path that came to a dead end (but still has historical interest) was brought in with a dead SMPS, which is based around a MK1210 device. I got it going after a battle. It seems to have a strange design - if it's not getting feedback that the secondary is OK it cause the big FET to go into full conduction and overloads resulting in a blown fuse at best or something worse! I'm using a Dim Bulb Tester (70W/230V) which thankfully has saved the day a number of times whilst repairing.

Now, it loads a CD OK. The motor voltage output (which is built onto the SMPS...

Hilti PD30 Laser Range meter Error 276
          by Dannyx
Good day folks.....wow, seems like forever since I posted anything here Still alive and well, thank you I guess you could say I've become more independent and able to work stuff out on my own. This one though goes way over my head and I doubt is fixable, but maybe some bright spark out there has an equally bright idea.

So: my Hilti PD30 laser meter quit on me just the other day. It was working fine, I set it down for a while and when I tried using it again it gave me an E276 and wouldn't do anything else. I tried taking out the batteries, all that standard stuff but nothing...

PS4 Launch Model Disk Drive Issue (disc drive no power won’t accept discs)
          by steveoski
Hey guys, so I have a weird one. I have been working on PlayStation 4 since they come out. I have fixed almost everything that hasn't required BGA soldering. Just a little background.

Now this particular PS4 had a broken HDMI port. It was replaced and it works perfectly. Upon reassemble the disc drive stopped taking in discs. Now I have seen this before and it has ALWAYS been the BD drive daughter board or the BD drive itself. I first replaced the BD Daughter board to see if the drive would start accepting discs before I started soldering the chip over to a new donor board. Still...
