Sony STR-270AV Louder in One Channel

I got this Sony stereo receiver for free from a neighbor as broken. It seems to be working (mostly) except for the fact that it is somewhat quieter in the right channel. The right channel is sometimes intermittent, and if I turn up the volume, it brings the right channel back. The right channel also seems like it doesn't have enough treble and too much base.

I have already tried swapping the speakers and source. I used deoxit on the speaker selector switch, and the right channel seems to be less intermittent. The left channel works fine now that I cleaned the switch.

I wonder if the volume pot is the culprit, but it looks like it would be very hard to disassemble and reassemble successfully.

    Any ideas?

Nevermind, it turned out to be a bad connection between the volume pot and the main board.

The old Pioneers used wire wrap between everything, and I've never had a problem. The old Sansui's use plugs and will corrode like the switches. Although, they are gold plated and takes longer. The switches are plated with silver and corrode a little faster.

Sony HCD-HX80R Amplifier Volume Control Problem
        by crackedprint
I have a strange fault on a Sony amplifier. The volume control varies the display from MIN, then 1 up to 30 and then MAX as expected. At MIN there is no sound. However, at 1 it is quite loud and increasing above 1 does not change the sound level.

I have tried a Cold Reset as per the service manual.

I have looked at the I2C clock and data to volume control chip IC501 (BD3499FV). Data is only sent to IC501 when the volume is set to MIN or 1. At any other setting no data is sent to IC501.

I have looked all the way through the service manual and tried many online...

old X58 triple channel board... memtest86 memory speed?
        by eccerr0r
Anyone run memory speed tests with an old X58-based triple channel 1st gen or any other >2 channel board? The one I have is a Gigabyte I think.

Anyway I had four 4GB DDR3-1333 modules in the 6 memory slots and got around 11GB/sec memory speeds assuming that it went dual channel since it didn't have enough modules for triple channel. Now I stuck in two more 4GB modules, but they are DDR3-1600. I'm still getting 11GB/sec speeds according to memtest86...

Just wondering, anyone do memory speed analysis on these triple (and higher) channel memory boards? Are there any...

Reverse engineering of 18650 4-channel tester
        by spleenharvester
        Hi friends

I have reverse engineered this tester, schematic is attached and is complete except for capacitor values. These testers annoyingly have no model number but they are the ones you find on the first page of just about any website if you type in "18650 4-channel tester". There is also a 2-channel variant and a newer 8-channel variant. They are very cheap (about £15) and can measure voltage, current, internal resistance and capacity. They have a multicolour display for all these statistics. They also have terminal blocks so that if you want to use a breakout board...

Vizio D65x-G4 Volume changes on its own
        by karthur
On this Vizio D65x, the volume will change on its own. I don't mean like during commercials where the volume will increase. I mean its like the (+) volume button on the remote is pressed and the actual volume dialog is displayed on the screen going up. It will do this, then the volume may start going down. It might go all the way to "0"or it might stop at a different number, then start going back up. The whole time its doing this, the volume dialog is shown on the screen.

It wont do it until it has been "ON" for 20 or 30 minutes, so it does seem to be heat related....
