Pioneer VSX-324 suddenly the HDMI stops working

    Hi all,

Recently, when I watch a movie, after a few minutes suddenly the red HDMI light on front of the receiver goes off and there is no picture and no sound but, the receiver itself stays on!
Then, when I turn it off for a few seconds and turn it back on, it keeps working for another few minutes and then the HDMI turns off once again.
Tried to do the factory reset and it didn't help.

What could be the problem? If it's one of the components inside then I can replace it if someone can pinpoint to the faulty component.

    Thanks in advance.

I have noticed that when the lid is open, it doesn't happen.
    Any clues?

      Well, it's heat related :-)
Have you tried to clean it? maybe it's too dirty.

In this case I would take an infrared camera to see where this heat is coming from.

Could be something needs to be reflowed or needs additional cooling.

I agree with you guys, definitely heat related, the question is how to discover the problem.
I don't have an infrared camera, it's very expensive.
          Yes it's clean inside.

You could also use isopropanol (isopropilic alcohol), that does not contain any water in it. Put some on the hdmi pcb and look for evaporation. That would be the heat point.

Focus on the board attached below.
First I would take the board out clean all connections and put it back in. Also verify if the HDMI problem is just one or all ports. Get yourself a can of air or dust spray. If you turn the can upside down you can freeze IC's or other components with it. Same with a hair dryer or similar, you can heat a part of the board and hopefully can find the problem that way.

The HDMI problem is for all ports.
What do you mean by saying CLEAN the board? From dust?

Don’t be shy and clean the connectors and plugs that come and go to this board with some electrical cleaner. The heat or freeze that IC and see what happens.

The problem is that it's not happening with the lid open so, if The lid is closed then it shutoff but if then I will open the lid, the receiver will work normally and thus I can't pinpoint the problem

did you try what was posted in post #7.... the hint about the hairdrier is your "huckleberry".

Umm… yes… you want the unit open for this, so you can see what you freezing or heating an IC and pinpoint the problem. You know the unit clunks out if it gets too hot. With the case open the unit will clunk out too if you add heat from the hair dryer. To speed up the cooling process use the freeze spray trick with a can of air upside down. Works every time.

                          Pioneer VSX-44 receiver HDMI dropouts
                          by RatherLoopy
I have an older Pioneer receiver (VSX-44) that's been dropping the HDMI output (black screen) for a few seconds every few minutes. Setup is HTPC -> Pioneer DVD HCMI in -> Pioneer HDMI out -> Samsung TV HDMI in, all with cheap HDMI cables that have never caused trouble before..

I initially found a lot of play in the receiver's HDMI inputs and output so I kind of squeezed them back into shape and they're making a tighter connection, but the problem persists.

And also, often, the HDMI will drop out in exactly the same way (black screen) just as my central air...

Denon AVR-2700H audio stops while receiver still works
                          by Cornito
                          Hello team,

                          I've got a new issue with a Denon Avr-2700H.
After several minutes working, receiver stops playing sound with a poc eared in the speakers.
Receiver still work and display video with error message on display.
Seems to me that is the main output relay.

I'm looking for the service manual that I can't find for the moment.

                          Does somebody have it?

                          Regards...

                          Pioneer lx 701 hdmi issues
                          by Servicem4
My receiver pioneer LX 701 doesn't work anymore correctly The history:
6 month ago hdmi picture output didnt work anymore but music input through hdmi still worked.

Since some weeks even this doesn't work. Right Before this occured i heard a plopping noise from the receiver one evening.

The rest of the receiver works, I used spdif for sound input.

I now opened the receiver and hoped to find a blown fuse but all look good.

Any tips how to progress? Between 2 PCB there is something which looks like a blown cap....

                          Hello Everyone,

I have an Onkyo TX-SR353 Audio/Video Receiver (5.1 ch with HDMI) that I am having a really hard time diagnosing and I'm about to throw this in the junk and go buy a new unit that is on sale until the 7th.

                          Symptoms:
                          • Intermittent (part of the reason why i'm having a hard time isolating problem), sometimes will work for 10+h at a time without issue
                          • Original symptom was wife reported loud banging noise (like someone was banging on the wall with their fists) from the LEFT SURROUND speaker and then the unit shut off.
                          • I swapped the Left and Right surround
                          ...

                          Toshiba 50UL2063DB randomly rebooting with HDMI-CEC and/or HDMI-ARC enabled
                          by spleenharvester
I have this TV hooked up to only an AppleTV 4K and a Creative soundbar. Originally HDMI-CEC and HDMI-ARC wouldn't work at all, I replaced all the HDMI cables with decent UGREEN cables meeting the latest standards, now it all works perfectly but once or twice a day the TV itself reboots while watching a program, the AppleTV keeps running. I haven't fully pinned down whether it is ARC or CEC causing it yet. All are running latest firmware.

I assume it is just HDMI-CEC being buggy as usual on a shitty Vestel machine, but can anyone think of anything I can try before disabling it?
