Recap of my Netgear 5 port Gigabit switch... SUCESS!!!

Just wanted to say thanks to all the forum members and mods. Spent some time reading, and finally dug my old Netgear 5 port switch out of a drawer it had been sitting in for a few years, and ordered some replacement caps for it. Needless to say, I am using the switch again! Thanks for all the info, and thanks for making this repair that much easier for me.



Now, what is my next recap project!!!! LOL

Glad to hear you got it working.
Not so glad to hear it was a Netgear. They've been my go-to brand since Linksys and Dlink turned to crap. What brand of crapacitors did it have in it?

Hmm now that I think of it, I shoulda kept the box of dead Linksys crud I recycled last year, and looked to see if it was just bad caps.

Ive heard about these bad Netgears. Supposedly a manufacturing change was implemented to fix the issue.

They had Taipo's and Ltec's... Replaced the Ltecs' because they were the ones bad, but plan on replacing the Taipo's next.

yeah, make the other crap go bye-bye too.

i remember opening up a siemens speedstream wireless-b router... it worked fine, but all of the caps were bulged or had the bungs shoved down... even the tiny caps... i stole the pc card out of it (thats how they made it use wifi) and thew it in my junk bin.

What are the cap sizes, ratings for this switch?
I'm thinking of buying a few and doing a preemptive recap.
The Netgear warranty is worthless, so no worries on voiding it.
